It's called OpenGPS Tracker and found on android market for free.

More of a review, I have never used off road GPS maps before so not sure if this software stacks up but it's free and seems pretty accurate.

Only used it twice, both times at Glasshouse Mountains, the Tracks all seem to be there that I have come across. I used my phone today which was okay but first time I used my tablet some was great with the big screen(I blutaced it to the dash).

It tracks where you have been so you can easily back track , you can add notes at certain spots and your trace is colour coded to your speed which I think is great for looking back at the tracks you've done and can see if it's green its a quick track or red mean you have had to take it slow, so most probably a rough section.

only down sides is that you can't Cache the maps so need to Mobile coverage, so it's good at glasshouse as you get mobile coverage in most areas and once you have the map displayed it will stay there unless you zoom in or out without coverage.

the other problem is the screen lock, there is no option to keep the screen active but I could change it in the device settings.

If anyone has any other good free/cheep programs list them up.

Androzic is great.
(Ive added heaps of maps HEMA, Festy, Melways, VicRoads, and made quite a few using MOBAC of microsoft hybrid + nokia ovi maps).

Its great having piles of maps to choose from. But with the added maps, you cant tell it to go here and take you there.
But I turn data off and just use the premade maps. Usually poor/no network coverage anyway.
