Hi,

I have been chasing down a rear tail shaft for my S70 for over 6 months now. Fortunately for me I managed to pick one up from a guy on here who was wrecking his. The complete shaft is in good condition however when I went to replace my old with with the new one I noticed that the end piece (bolts to transfer case) on my old shaft has what I believe may be a 1lt shaft end on it? On further investigation the new uni joints that I purchased will not fit it properly either, approx 2mm in diameter out?? I'm now confused as to what I have? All the mods were done by previous owner (who is not contactable) which is the standard G16B conversion however would it be possible that I have a 1lt transfer case? or possibly something else?

Very possible. The 1L flanges are "NT'. Not WT

Which end of your shaft was stuffed?

The male part of the shaft has worn away due to no end cap on it allowing sand, mud etc..to get in, its the male end that needs replacing and has the 1lt end..

I know pics would probably help however it was late last night and I had to put the old shaft back in again!

Id be tempted to find a complete NT shaft and drill the diff flange to suit.

Mixing parts is never a good thing for a tailshaft

It sounds like someone has fitted a 1.0 transfer and fitted a 1.0 flange to the shaft.
You will need to fit 1.0 caps to two of the trunnions on the WT uni joint.

curiosity.... why would you fit a 1.0 transfer instead of a 1.3? are there any advantages or disadvantages to doing that?

1L case is slightly lower geared

Yeah I tried that mate however the internal diameter is different...!
