Ok so I just got myself a new Sierra but having problems with
the starter. The car has a 1.6 vitara efi with Sierra gearbox, bens adapter.
When you try to start the car it makes the worst meshing noise.
So had the starter rebuilt and still the same, so did a search and
found out the starter is out of a grand vitara 2.0L. I tried a Sierra 1.3L starter and did the same noise.
Any help would be great.

If 2 starters do the same thing I'd pull the inspection plate from the lower bellhousing and check the ring gear teeth on the flywheel.

A 1.3 starter needs grinding to fit properly with a 1.6/Sierra box.

I had I look at the ring gear and it has little wear
but it doesn't look to bad, I am going to order a new 1.6 vitara
starter and see how that goes. If that doesnt work I will have to find a new
Flywheel or ring gear, not looking forward to pulling the gearbox out. Is a 1.6 vitara starter different
to a 2.0L starter.

Ok so I got a new vitara starter and it's still not starting
When you turn the key the central locking clicks and the stater
sounds like its still meshing. Could it be a power thing.

I had the same issue with a 1.6, sounded like some kind of turbo starter, could never work out why it sounded like that but was never a problem. I know of someone else that had the same issue, but they didn't worry about it either.

The sound is really bad like the starter is meshing big time
with the flywheel, the flywheel has small amount of wear but it's not
to bad. What else could it be
