Ok, just got of the phone with the makers of the tank. They said they brought another STOCK jimny in a little while ago to finish the tank off, but realized that they could only get another 15 liter's in with out compromising ground clearance to much. They said they did not see this issue when they were making the first tank for my car and thought it was not worth the extra effort for only 15 liter's. The designer of the tank is going to call me back tomorrow to discuss the tank on more detail Is every body happy to gain another 15 liter's? Or are they not happy to pay the price of (i'm guessing around 1k+) for the extra 15 liter's? If people are happy to gain only 15 liter's i will push for them to finish the tank...

That would extend range by about 25%. Is that enough?

I'm guessing the actual cost will be around $1200-$1400 ish. BTW i don't think it's a ally tank

Aluminium tank is illegal, unless it is round like a truck tank.

joeblow wrote: Aluminium tank is illegal, unless it is round like a truck tank. only if its over 22 litres, otherwise its ok made of anything. alloy tanks are notious for stress cracking around and welded areas like mounting brackets etc, thats why they are usually held on by steel straps on trucks

15L isn't really much, 25L at least would be nice. Shame... they should move the exhaust.

I'm moving the exhaust. But it's hard getting mate to even look at things. He has about 10 cars at the workshop he's doing things on.

1k is pretty good when you realise the amount of work involved from having an idea to having a product on the shelf. My coily tank from The Long Ranger was about $1350 fitted, for an 85L tank that limits the departure angle and required space above from a body lift, so anything around $1K for 15L extra capacity that doesn't require a body lift and doesn't hang too low is not too bad... Otherwise spend about $1.5K on a custom rear bar with multiple swing-arm jerry can holders...

been through this many times in multiple threads. We cant put Jerry can holders at the rear of the car on a swing away bar

I've seen one (long range tank) in a Jimny at the wreckers up at Zillmere here in Brisbane, the car was from the mines and had been in a rollover, anyway, the rear seats had been removed and it took up the whole rear seat and luggage area and was about 5" deep, didn't see how it was filled etc though, was more interested in the front bar and other bits.
Ive been interested in making one for a while like everyone, especially now with the amount of fuel the 1.8turbo uses, we will have a free shell in the next couple of months to start measuring and dummying up, would rather keep it under the floor 2

My jimny had a LPG system on it when I bought it! 750ks out of the two tanks if I putt along casually, 38l tank in the cab, get a trip around Fraser island without needing to refuel!
