My Alternator has gone in my jimny. is it better to just put a replacement one in or go a larger alternator and larger battery or batteries.

and how hard is it to replace the alternator iv had a look and its in a pretty awkward place but doesn't seem to hard to get to tho.

any help would be great,

Takes a bit to undo to the bottom bolt but shouldnt take you more then ten minutes to remove alt.
I had mine out couple weeks ago nd I was stupid not to put it against a Ed falcon alt I have here.

i have a spair stock one here mate if you get stuck

mine has a 1hz 120amp off goodness..

or EL falcon is the easy one

What do you mean 'gone'? If it is just brushes, they can be replaced.

Also, I have learned, for the 6 bolts, 2 hose clamps and a bucket required to remove the radiator, it makes it much easier to work on the engine's front end. I also modified the shroud so it comes out in 2 pieces without removing the radiator.

how does the larger 120A one go for clearances id says its a fair bit larger? and was that on a M13A? as mine engine is a 2005 VVT M13A

and @Bugsta it is just the bushes but id like to put in a larger one so i can put in larger batteries and a winch, rather then straining my stock one to charge larger batteries

A larger battery/s would not strain the alternator. It will only ever supply as much current as it is capable of.

I installed the largest yellow top available to replace the smaller LA. As mentioned in another thread, this battery will now drive my Engel all night and allow easy startup in the morning, and it will drive my M8000 as long as I need, even when engine stopped for a while. Only times I have had a flat battery is when I left the cabin fan or interior light on and the battery was already low.

for some reason i cant even get the bolts to budge. any tips on removing it? so for now iv just soaked then in WD40 seeing if that helps free them up

WD40 was my first thought. As long as the spanner/socket is not slipping off the head, a pipe to extend your leverage, or a breaker bar might be worth a go. I had to do the same with the socket head bolt atthe bottom. You need a good quality allen key for this.

My Jimny just shat a belt just before and I have the day off today, so I'll see if my falcon alt will fit my m13a

so good news for ppl that have a m13a jimny. some bad news as well.
good news is the 110 amp falcoon alt will fit, bad news is its not a straight swap.

here is a pic of the alt fitted into position. ive thought about it a bit and came up some ideas.
were the red box is there will have to be a spacer fitted, just some thing like a crush tube.
were the blue arrow is, youll have to drill the mount out for a bolt to past through so it can screw into the nt fitted in the alt mount.
all you need a a longer bolt to past through all the mounts into the nut on the alt.
top mount lines up as well.

im not that smart in the electric side of things but im guessing youll need to add in a new cable from alt to battery with a in-line fuse and hook the wires up into the back of the alt.

bye eye the pulleys line up. my sister just brough home a new belt so i havnt got the chance to put it on to see if in lines up when the car is running
have to take out the surround and fan and all that just to get the belt on

mmmmm, awesome work there mate I Wonder if it have the same plug type or will that have to be modified? could you can use the 1HZ alt in a M15 ?

Plug is different I think. Also couldn't get the stock belt on so you'll need a bigger belt
Idk about m15a but jonno racing put one on his g13bb engine.
Adding falcon alt adds 40 more amps
