want to run chromoly and im trying to work out the front diff situation.... being 26 spline.

dont have any money really atm and i know i can get diff centers cheap, question is, has anyone run a rear
diff center in a front diff to accomodate 26 spline cv's ????

What car are you talking about?

I could be wrong, but Pretty sure you can't run a rear center in the front of a Sierra because of the way the r&p are designed/machined.
You can use the side gears and put them in the front though.

I think you might be wrong.

R&P are the same front and rear. and RD88 (rear air locker) can be installed in a front or rear carrier.

Yes your right there. I no there the same but the op is asking if you can put in the hole rear center/third member into the front to make it 26 spline.
What I think he is asking is, if he get a rear carrier and just bolt it into the front housing. Doing this wouldn't the r&p be running the wrong way?

On a NT 1.3 Sierra with standard 4 pinion diff centers yes

Anything else, for the purpose of what you are asking, no you wont be able to, if its a wt 1.3 Sierra with 3.7 gears, just go get another rear center

Assuming it's a sierra (WT):
If your aim is to just get cromo axles to fit (ie: you require 26 spline side gears) bolting in a stock rear centre of the same ratio is an ideal solution.

Nope. It's all the same front and rear. A rear third member bolted straight into the front still turns the right way.

Think about it. Looking from the transfer to the rear diff when the shaft is turning clockwise, if you look at the front it will be turning counter clockwise.

NT Sierra run 4 pinion front AND rear.
WT run a 2 pinion front and a 4 pinion rear.
4 pinion is much stronger than 2 pinion.

All 1.3 diffs are 22 spline front.... 26 spline rear.
Rear centre will bolt straight into front housing.
Rear side gears (26spl) can be fitted to a 4 pinion carrier and then fitted to a WT front centre if you want to run CrMo axles.

Any really old parts have been stressed one for many years,
can break easy if stressed the other way,
which is why we don't hi rev and dump clutch or steer too hard, in reverse.
And why when using 2nd hand parts, we try to fit them up in same positions when we can.
This may include using 2nd hand CV's too
This is possibly what your refering to.
But Steves right (it can happen ) about diff turning same way in front or rear.
