And I'm making a tandem box trailer next month with a similar swing arm design, but airbags in place of coils.

I started to make an independant setup like above. Ended up being too much of a headache for me. I went 3 link beam axle in the end with pajero rear trailing arms (thanks steve), gq front adjustable panhard rod plus 80 series front springs, shocks and spring mount/bumpstop tower thingy.. This is in my caravan of course, alot heavier than you guys are wanting but works excellent. Could not be happier withit. plus if I did break something in the suspension side of things, I could get bits anyware. Only custom part was the axle itself (60 x 5mm wall square tube with parallel bearings and 10 inch electric brakes. axle rated to 2000kg and brakes bring its overall legal rating back to 1600kg

I put my 31's back on the trailer.
The weight saved by smaller tyres,
was less than the extra weight to carry an extra spare.
And the load carrying space was greatly reduced.
I can live with a little extra fuel useage.
Looks cooler too

When money allows, will ditch the remoulds for real tyres,
that will greatly reduce tyre weight, have better balancing,
and less rolling resistance possibly, with a newer tread design.
(Vit is wearing 2 remoulds also)

Will stick to mudders, so trailer tyres still useful on car if needed.
Trailer is so light, it could run well on a flat anyway.

I'm currently building a 6x4 cage trailer for my misses to cart horse feed and hay bails around behind her GV, so she can stop borrowing my damn ute all the time. I won a 6x4 off ebay for bugger all which said it needed a little bit of work which ended up being a complete write off it was so fucked. So I have just used the springs, axle and rego off that trailer to build this from scratch.

Will be making provision for spare tire, jerry can and mounts for a rooftop tent so in a little while down the track I can comfortably take my boy fishing/camping weekends away.



I hate slipper springs so these will be replaced as soon as I can be bothered spending any money on it. I work in a steel supply shop so the materials have cost me next to nothing. We have a heap of 3mm plate which has been sitting round for a couple years now which I saved from going in the scrap bin last week so that will become the floors and the 300mm high sides below the cage, freebies

well ive finally finished building my trailer and got rego put on it so can now start the camper part of it all still not sure which way to go with it would like a kitchen and storage room and some under cover area to cook under but still want it light as possible

Been doing bits and pieces on it where I can, kinda working on it during work hours so do a bit here and there when my machine is running.

I'm just about to cold galv and paint some welds from the top before I glue the floor into place, then just need to cut the mud guards off the old shitty trailer and order in my mesh for the cage section.

Kinda thinking I made it a bit too tall now, but I think I'll finish it as is then see if I still think this way. At the moment it totals 1m from the trailer floor, I reckon around 700mm would probably be better

1m will props give you a good height to chuck a roof top tent onto and have a multipurpose trailer

Added a toolbox to the work trailer.

I have decided to extend the sides on the trailer.
Partly to keep the tent top dry in water crossings.
But also to prevent me having to duck down when I get into the tent.
Better for neck and back.
Could be good to be a bit further from the ground at night,
its further for the crocs to reach me
Could be useful when its just a trailer, too.
Height increase will be determined by cost, tools and see how we go.

I ripped it out of a video.

Looks like 50mm lift is what the tent top will get.
Any more I would need more bracing, thus added weight and complexity.
Going to basically bolt on 50mm x 25mm box section.
So tent top still attaches same way, just with longer bolts.
The rest I'll make up the plan as I go

Got started on the sides lift.
Decided on 50mm lift,
as to not have to change to much, or spend too much.
Got to use me new riv nut tool again.

Finished the trailer sides lift.
Decided black would be nicer than matching red,
goes with the other black parts fitted.
(cheaper, too, which was a deciding factor )
I just need to check fit the camper top, tomorrow,
and reposition the buttons that hold down the weather proof camper cover.
I have fitted some strengthening ribs to the extensions,
in case I tie stuff to them when using as a normal trailer.
Hopefully nothong fouls on camper top,
but will check that out, too.

Camper top didn't fit at first ,
bit of warping of metal made holes slightly out of line.
A quick redrilling next size up fixed that,

Some unexpected bonuses.
Elastic clips are easier to access, now they not behind the jerry rack.
Weather cover seals better now its not sitting on the wheel arches.
Tail lights no longer partially obscured by the weather cover.

Threw the zip section away yonks ago.
It was too hard for my fumbly fat fingers,
and jammed up with mud a lot.
So I got agro once too often, and tore the zips
The clips don't seal as well as zips, but much less frustrating.

After some advice
I'm planing to make a trailer for the quad simular to this but with out the wank wheels or the fold down ramps



I want to keep it light as possible as the quad is already 188kg and i want to make it strong enough to take it offroad too.
All that will be on the trailer is the quad and two ten litre jerry cans and at a later date a frame will be mate to put my rooftop tent above the bike.
I'm planing to use 50mm RHS for the draw bar but will 40mm RHS be ok to use for the main frame? also what thickness RHS should i use?
