I'm doing some future planning for when Bruno goes bang. Now I can't really go without my car for anymore then a week. I was thinking of doing a g16 Carb conversion to cut down on costs, don't really need loads of power and cbf with FI Now I was just had a brainwave. What if a buy a second g13 and put a g16 head on it?? Will this have any performance gain? My thinking is I can buy and rebuild the second engine over a month or so then just swap em one weekend. And I won't have to worry about engineering? Opionions, thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated

I don't think it will much difference there might be for flow thou I'm not sure how diffrent the g16a head is I havnt had experience with the 1.6 head ,I do know the g13 head has some hidden power in it if u put the work and shave the head and port and polish it also there some dead spots within the head wich if u fill or weld (were the valve guide s run through ) and reshape could possible realy help ,the g13ba is a non interference engine so u can actually in theory shave a lot off the head but only if the bottom end can with stand the extra comp. Who knows about the g16 head are they better in many ways.

You will spend a lot of money trying to get a 1300 head to flow anywhere near as well as a 1600 head. Unless you really know what you are doing (read performance cylinder head specialist) don't waste your time wrecking a head.

Generalization isn't necessarily 100% right. All sorts of oddball stuff has come out of the Suzuki factory.

That is true JrZook, but the reason I am making the connection is because in his original post and topic heading he mentions G13B vs G16a, which most guys on here would think as GTI, therefore he isnt going to get correct answers until someone points it out, as Jonno has done. My CA has L18 stamped on the engine block.

The confusion comes from the heading which does say G13B V G16A and you are right in saying that when someone says G13B people usually think twin cam GTI, but when you read what he says in the post he is explains that he is talking about non efi engines not twin cam efi gti.
To be precise the coily single cam 8 valve 1298cc engine is a G13B, it is cast with G13B on the block, but unlike the G13B Gti Twin Cam the coily G13B has an extra letter stamped in the engine number and the letter is an "A" so it is commonly known as a G13BA.

I think the block I have is a g13b and it came out of a 92 auto golden barina. And its was its original engine I may be wrong its been built since but its still only got 8 valves for know any way

Seriously mate if you don't know what you are doing don't mess with the 1600 head either, you are more likely to make it worse not better. And yes the 1600 head, manifold and carbie will improve the 1300 but don't expect it to be better than a 1600.

my plan is to buy another engine and do the work on it, so i can learn. i dont expect a 1300 to perform better i just dont want to do a 1600 conversion as it will need engineering and that will mean i cant drive it on my p's

I am not saying don't do up an engine what I am saying is there are lots of things you can do while still staying within the means of a home workshop, modifying cylinder heads is a specialist field, there are a handfull of people around the country that really know what they are doing in this field, you can read all the books you like but it takes years of experience and specialist equipment to modify cylinder heads for performance, it is done by trial and error and can cost thousands of dollars in labour to get results. I know of a fellow who spent around over $1000 on a 1300 head and in the end it flowed nearly as good as a 1600 head and that was at a place in Brisbane that specialised in cylinder heads. I am saying dont try running before you can walk, forget porting, polishing etc, bolt on a good 1600 head, mild cam, carbie and extractors and enjoy.

Like i said, dont want to do a transplant as that requires engineering then makes it illegal to drive on p's

If you go for the G16A 8V head then get the cam too as it has a little more duration and lift.
