Hunt for a JLX with PS, PW, PM, roof racks, carpet etc.
They go for the same price as the JX, more basic
They all seem pretty the same. They shouldnt have rust.
Search the jimny wobble on here. Might put him off getting one. Pretty common.

Nothin wrong with a JX, i own 1 and the only thing i would want from a JLX is the roof rails.... so i put them on Power steering - if they are only interested in easy stuff you dont need it, steering is pretty light when on bitumen n dirt roads. Electric bits - just more things that could play up.. Just my 2cents from owning 1

Yeah there is prob nothing wrong with the JX, light steering anyway like the sierra's. Just saying, Zooks are always upgradeable. Better off to start with it already upgraded for same price.

even the jlx roof rails arent really that good. still need to put cross bars on which makes em even higher. Id rather the non-rail route with a rhino rack. Which is what ill do when i get the disposable cash.
+100000 for extra electrics you dont need playing up. especially in a fourby.
but vinyl floor is simply the best, just ask anyone whos been swamped. about an hour or so to rip it all out and hose out vs several days dry time and still smells like ass afterwards.

I've owned a jim and went thru puddles, floor smells unles u tear it out, even the jim struggles on open road. Just depends on what u want. Less electrics the better well i think that.

my 2c on Power windows and power steering.
Manual windows break just as or more offten, but a handle is cheaper than a regulator. I can afford the occational regulator, and love: one press window open.
Power steering was a total ripper of a mod to the sierra, makes tecnical driving so much easier, I would always get comments about how easily I shifted the tires around from other sierra drivers. I wont probaby wont ever have another 4x4 without it, Im not sure about the Jimny unit still, I might put a bigger box in the next build.
So worth getting the JLX yes.
Watch out for rust under the rear floor is my tip, seems pretty common.
pre 2004 are the non VVT motors, the touque is not great even with standard tires, and the gear box is very short to compensate, at least the engines like to rev. my understanding is the newer ones are a bit better in that respect, but you have less options for bigger engine swaps due to emissions.

Yup grab a Jimny! Make sure it DOES have power steer as when you go up in tyre size even minimally it's bullshit heavy! I regularly wheel my Jim with a 100 series, vitara and pootrol and they ALL comment on how great the Jim does! Hard core wheeling every weekend for the past 4 months has only seen me get garbage in tyre beads and the odd scratch from tree branches as damage. I would prefer an auto (got a manual) as with tyre upsizing and no reduction gears is hard work without slipping/riding the clutch. Vinal floor in mine and real thankful as its had it's share of water on board. As for windows I have Povo pack wind downs but I don't think it's any great strain as you can easily wind down passenger side from drivers seat. Engine size is small but will be thirsty if you add tyres, racks, bullbar/winch etc etc I have all the garbage hanging off mine and average 300-350km from a tank. Comfort levels are a bit iffy but better than a Sierra but nowhere in the league of a vitara. Hope this helps.

I can attest to that. I got mine pretty clean and free from smell though. Just gotta keep the carpets up for a while. One of those spare water bottles you keep under the seat works well . Sunlight during the day and a fan at night will get it dry. Last time I did it, was overcast and cold for days so it took a full week!

How about backing it up with some actual knowledge, or personal experience? just traded in our jim. some of them have a wobble that is quite hard to get rid of, some dont wobble much but its a painful process when they do, as for road driving when it dosent wobble its alot nicer to drive than a sierra, but the vits take the cake there, they seam pretty good off road and heaps of mods around for them. as for narrow minded, after owning a jimny for 3 years and throwing alot of money at it to stop it wobbling, and never succeeded, i would never get another one, unless it was a trail buggy. but in saying that no 2 cars are the same, ive been burnt and wont go back until Suzuki so something proper about fixing it. the jimny is a good concept and im sure there are some good ones out there! is that a better response

Much. It gives the OP one person's actual experience. So now what you are saying is yours was shit. I'd be suprised if there wasn't at least a few owners of every car ever made that had issues with it and thought it was rubbish. I've had various wobble issues. The last thing I did which seemed to get rid of it till recently, with the invcrease to 32's, is shimming/loading the king pin bearings. I think I will need to add a bit more. Not really any need for the

not swipin at any one, just a bit of fishing at the end being a smart ass, trying to lighten the mood you know.
from what i have heard most jimnys wobble, even the 2012 wobble, if you ask me that's good enough reason to steer clear, Suzuki knows about it but don't care to fix it, its dangerous. again not saying they all do it, but a lot of them do, i know with ours last time it wobbled, it broke the alloy transfer mount and sent the shifter up a fair way threw the floor almost sent us onto the wrong side of the road and we almost got rear ended, that was the final straw.

If he is looking for a road friendly suzuki, get a vitara. 10,000 times more comfortable and nice to drive than either a sierra or a jimny.

Vitara's are definitely nice to drive, Better Power to Weight ratio. IFS. Much more stable on the road.
