Just loaded this onto my phone. Waiting on some photo's to transfew to my PC and the 2008 hema maps to come in.

Will update how it goes in 2 weeks after my big ride. Anyone got tips how to charge a htc desire from a portable battery of some sort?

I had one of the original Galaxy TAB's. It was bloody awesome. I while ago I loaded a modded ROM and it ran even better. That wass till it was stolen out of my truck. Might have to get myself another.

personally, id buy a micro-usb cable, and one of these

Then id cut the USB-A connector off (the big regular USB). solder the 2 data wires together (required for charging only), then connect the pos neg wires to the obvious points. attach battery connectors that you want, alligator clips, whatever. and off you go!

For neatness factor, id chuck it in a small one of these, so would only have battery connector cables coming out one side, micro-usb connecter cable coming out the other...

I was going to do this method to put a permenant charge cable in my motorbikes compartment. But im also going to use the same method for a power distribution board im building for my drawers.

if you were a shit-solder'er you can get one of these converters instead and then you dont even need to cut the usb cable. and could still store it in the box.

not real sure mate. depends on what you are after in a map... I don't really use the program, I stick with Hema and Raster 250k maps.

Google earth, as in satellite? or satellite with streetmaps overlay?

either way, ozimapper wont get from google. Theres a few other programs that will do it.

and this is the version of IMG2OZF you need to convert the IMG map files to ozf2 for use on androzic (the new version only supports ozf3 which is not supported in androzic)

keep in mind, grabbing map tiles from google etc..... well... they dont really like it, so these tools sometimes break. In fact i havent even tried MOBAC yet, ill give it a go in a few hours and try and get some hybrid maps.

Gus will chime in here he said something about it when at coffin bay, i'm pretty sure google have made it hard to use their images now.
Was pretty cool using oziexplorer on my android phone with real images, its not good for road names but

yeah the Garmin is actually pretty good with the fourby vectormaps. Shonkymaps is not bad from memory. theres a few others, was kinda spewing when i couldnt get garmin working on my hacked navman. However navman now have some of their own off-road addons available for their GPS units. but I think its only a list of tracks sort of thing, not a go-anywhere affair.

there will always be a way of stitching the google tiles together, as long as theres a healthy supply of coders around dedicated to it.


What i use atm is a single 1:25k map of Australia, which is pretty detailed with its tracks etc, and yes, its a massive file....... think its a few gb

when thats not sufficient, usually got at LEAST 1 Hema map to use, and failing that, ill always have a natmap raster 250k map (same as what the army use, great topo, bit old but) on any particular spot. I think i have a half decent zoom hybrid google map of QLD on there too, I rarely use it though. im not a big fan of satellite maps unless im searching for something not marked.... and even then those tracks are pretty hard to see on satellite imagery.

my SD card is literally FULL of maps, and its a 16gb card.... no other software on it. I think my old man might have left some fishing charts on there too at some stage, if i ever drive into moreton bay or pt Phillip bay.....

Buy Navionics on google play market... you wont regret it. It has offline map downloading built-in, and its basically the same charts youd get on a expensive chart-plotter.

just trying out MOBAC
works excellent, just have to convert from oziexplorer to oziexplorer mobile afterwards though (with img2ozf) other than that it works really well
