Out of the solid axle Suzuki's which one would you say have the strongest Axle / Diffs.? And what would be the max tyre diameter could you run with them? Would an old V8 rip them apart? The reason I am asking is I am after a set of diffs to replace a Dana 25 in a Willeys jeep project I have going and wondering if a set of Sierra diffs could work. It has a V8 in it, and the front diff just isn't strong enough the rear is a dana 44. I have been looking at going with Hilux diffs but the width is too wide for my liking and would like to avoid cutting the rear gaurds. My other option would be a custom set of diffs.

What size tire u want to run A sierra diff with cromo might run a 31 with cromo if u r nice on the juice but if u r heavy on the right foot the v8 would rip it apart

A front sierra diff running chromo axles and cv's is good for anything upto a 35 inch tyre.

Seriously I would not even consider a Sierra diff, chromos or not, if you are running a V8 you will break it. Now lots of people will say even Hilux is not strong enough but don't forget he has a little Willeys ( I mean his Jeep, sorry mrwilley) so Patrol or cruiser diffs are just too big heavy and bulky. You can buy so much aftermarket stuff for hilux diffs and you have the option of running shortened hilux drive shafts and even hilux gearbox and transfer if you wanted to.

In the olden days I had a 40 series landcruiser with a 308 holden V8 and 32" tyres, I broke 2 rear diffs and a few axles as well that was an old dunger V8 not a good one

The mad bugger who used to have the suzuki dealership at Little Hartley ( near Lithgow for the others) put a rover V8 & auto into a sierra & it was quite drivable.

What about Jeep diffs EG TJ Wrangler? Made to handle a torquey 4.0litre 6 cylinder. Easily upgraded with aftermarket bits if need be.

Why don't you buy a D44 front and D60 rear from an F150? Cheaper than custom, and off the shelf parts are at your fingertips. Also, you're keeping it in the Spicer family

Early D30 from jeep up to the early 60's would bolt straight in, but they are no where to be found in Australia. The D30 can be built up fairly easily, and would handle the V8 (aprox 190hp). The other issue that most people forget about when doing engine transfers and particulary in my case is the extra weight that is put onto the axle housing. A sierra diff would have to be trussed as well not a big issue. I have thought about F150 Diffs but again it is the extra width that I do not like. When the Hilux diffs are put into the Suzuki's are they shortened or do most people keep the Hilux width? Anybody know of any one that does custom diffs for 4wd's around the Melbourne area?

HiLux front diffs are only 57mm wider than a WT Sierra front diff so there's really no point in going to all the effort of narrowing it.
