That's a nice way to remove that machining step, makes things a bit cheaper.
For those that want to carry spare axles can you do extra outer plates seperate?

why not notch them so you can remove them without the need for the pressing on with wheel bearings.
similar to the 410 backing plates you can get from teh US.
i notched those plates and i can swap axle and bearing without worrying about that extra piece.. just a though

I'm keen, would you consider also making a calliper plate to suit Zook front callipers (I already have a few sets)

ok..................ready to go, all i need is some orders to do the first run.
for $300 bucks you will get all caliper plates, disc adaptor(have to supply your own studs) and the little brake line brackets (plus you will get stainless fasteners for the mounts). if i get 2 or 3 orders i will start the run straight away.
NOTE:- you must run rw507 bearings (larger) and if you want the outer plate to be easily removed without pressing the bearing off this must be cut to suit yourself, i will not do this (legalities etc).
those of you who want to machine your drums down and don't need the disc adaptors you only pay $240.

You probably don't want to use Zook calipers on the rear , it will be like pulling the hand brake on every time you hit the brakes.
But of course i could be wrong.

i will not be doing mounts for zook calipers, only nissan calipers. zook calipers should never be used on the rear.

And you use Sierra front discs with these? And the studs from the disc adaptor are these just the standard 4 studs that are in the diff housing that attach to the backing plate?

Curious about this.
What are the main reasons people pursue a rear disk conversion?
Not enough braking performance from the standard drums?
- I can stop mine just using the handbrake pretty damn quick from 100kmh
Would have thought weight over the rear axle / tyre grip would be the limiting thing.
Do the standard drums heat up easily if they are hammered?
Or more to do with braking control, ie expecting to have more control, less lockups etc with disks?

For me the reason to do it is the drums fill up with muddy water and wrecks the brakes in short order.

Yours never will! You need to get the rig wheeling first
But yea mud and junk gets in and cant easily get out, so it destroys the shoes.

Ahh.
So disks are preferred because they are more 4wd ready to deal with the rough stuff.
Makes sense.
I gather the quicker upgrade is to mount a set of front Sierra caliphers on the rear.
The more rounded, involved upgrade is to use a calipher that accommodates cable park brake, like from the pintara, etc.
Is that the gist of it?

Having the handbrake integrated into the caliper is handy in some regards, but not the main reason for using that sort of caliper.
Rear calipers have smaller pistons and so exert less pad pressure compared to front calipers. This may help to maintain reasonable front-to-rear brake balance (proportioning). Royce mentioned he used Sierra front calipers on the rear of his Sierra, but you'll note he mentions using cheap pads.

Id be keen to give them a whirl.
Any idea of ball park cost of calipers?
The drum brakes never last and im sick of having to carry my handbrake (brick) around.

EDIT: Just reread your posts again, found my answer. Will have to look at wreckers for some nissan parkbrake cables methinks. Im runnin 323 calipers though, may not fit up.

been a while since i updated. i have changed them a little. i have brought down the caliper by 4mm for better pad contact and i am now modding the brackets so they will suit the rear full floater systems i'm working on. with the new mounts you can either use them for just calipers.......or down the track if you go full floater the mounting points for a vitara spindle will be there. i'm also trying to nut out a sytem similar to that i did on a hilux to utilise the factory sierra wt cable with adaptor brackets. hilux with 80 rear shown below.
