in my sierra there is a hose which runs from just before the air box to the exhaust pipe. What is it ?

It is a preheat pipe so the engine sucks warmed air in winter or when cold.
NT's have a switch with Summer/Winter on it.
WT's use vacuum solenoids to switch it.
