Ok, more than a year down in this two year contract, been dreaming about what to do car wise when I do come back.

What I've dreaming about is two cars:
1. SWB GV, 3.2lv6 Manual 2005+
2. Jimny, 2.0l j20 w/aw4 & bigger diffs. 99-04.
Budget will be about 20-25k.

Obviously these cars don't actually exist.
The swb GV only comes with the little donks but with manual or the aw4 auto.
I could get a 2l auto one of these and take the engine and gearbox and put it inthe jimny, but the 3.2l only comes in an auto or 2.7l manual, so the best solution I can see would be to
Buy a 3.2l engine & auto gearbox
Buy a SWB Manual j20 GV, take the engine out, put in the v6
Mate the j20 with the auto from the 3.2l and put it in the jimny.

Now the obvious questions..
What gearboxes come with the 3.2l?
Are they all the aw4 (the newer ones with the newer style selector) or have they changed it too much for this idea to work?
Will the 3.2l v6 mate with the manual in the swb GV?
The GV will need to meet euro4 compliance I'm guessing.

Another option is another swb pajero instead of the GV because I like the toasty flames.
Then it's an easy thing to buy a j20+AW4 combo for the Jim as the pajero would already have the right engine and gearbox.


I don't know much about the GV motors and gearboxes you see.
I plan on buying the GV as a write off and get it engineered back on the road with the new engine while I drive the stock Jimny around.
I will be on fly in fly out from June next year probably, so down time will be building cars and 4wding mostly.

I might be WAY out of line here, but here's my understanding of the new GV stuff:

The 2.7 is still a H27 - this does allow the possibility of a manual.

The 3.2 is actually a GM Alloytec variant and will be all sorts of unique - no manual.

I'm off the the Pines Enduro in a fortnight, if this car is here (as it was last year):



I'll have a chat to the owner. It's running a H27.

Of course anything is possible, but I think you'd be better chasing a H27 than the 3.2 if you want a manual, or else boost the motor in the SWB GV.. Take into account that the 3.2 will be CAN bus and I think you'll be in for a world of pain.

As for the Jimny build, sounds cool.

Thanks Steve, that GV above is what im after exactly for my DD/touring car.
H27 it is then. I thought it might be the case.
The 2.7 will be plenty anyway, but if the 3.2 slotted in then it should be.

Don't they have repairable write offs in NSW anymore? Now that I'm separated I might be going back to VIC instead of moving to NSW anyway.

I was a bit hasty on ebay once and got an imported 'Stolen/Recovered' write off from Queensland. I got that blue-slipped and registered NSW no worries about 3 years ago.

However on closer inspection it was a death trap, so wouldn't recommend unless you can inspect first. Theres a lot of Flood damaged write-offs around. Based on my experience if the rules have changed I reckon it's a good thing. The death trap I managed to register should never have been allowed back on the roads, so there must have been something wrong somewhere in the old system.
