So I'm going to do some major service items and gaskets on my engine, and I'm going to just remove it, what is the best method for doing this? Usually I'll undo all the driveline and pull motor and box out together, never done a 4wd though. Any tips and things to watch would be great

Motor and box together? Won't happen. Auto or manual?

Leave the motor in if you can.

Manual, dont want to leave the engine in, doing timing gear, O2 sensors, rear main etc etc
unless its really not worth the hassle id rather leave it in
what are the common oil leaks? im pretty certain its the timing case leaking but what else should i be looking out for?

I pulled a h20a /h25a out of a vitara, think the engine bay is smaller with same motor dimensions.

Not too bad, take the drivers side exhaust header off for ease of access to starter motor bell housing bolts etc. Alot of it has to be done from under the car. Remove the front diff also to take it out. O2 sensors are bull shit tight!! Put some beetle juice on them to loosen them up.

Rear main is a breeze. New clutch spigot throwout flywheel machine etc while its out.

Timing chain is a real pain in the ass, do the water pump and oil pump while your there.

Goodluck and have fun mate. Its tight and frustrating but you can do it! All those things are much easier out of the car, mechanics charge 17-21 hours to do just timing gear in car!!! Pm me if you have any questions i might be able to help...

Front timing case is a common leak. Done heaps at work.
