Hi everyone, still new here, looking at getting new suspension for my 99 jimny,, it is a daily driver on the road, but when I get the chance i like going camping and off road up at lithgow, anyway, what should i get, I want comftability and clearance, what is the legal lift hight with out an engeneering certificate and what would need to be done ?...cheers

Legal I think is 2" no higher without engineering.

depends on what state your in if its QLD its 1/3 bumpstop which is 1" in a jimny roughtly. other places like NSW and VIC i think are 50mm or 2"

in the end its what ever the cop things is legal. so best to what ever you want anyway.

and if your wanting soft suspension (comfortable) dont get an ARB bull bar they are big and heavy your springs will sag in a few months with it.

Read a few jimny build threads and see what people opinions are on kift kits.
There jb 50mm kit, tough dog 60mm lift. King sprig 50mm lift. And ome 50mm lift i think.
Dont get king as there way to soft if your going to run bar. Mine front and is diving into the ground atm with kings.
You can get a larger coil spring rate for ball bars.
I had jimny bits 75mm lift in mine then sold them and put in kings. Now i have to buy new coils because they dont hold up a car.

Every one has different opinions on lift kits so its really what you like and prefer.

ORA have one of the better kits out there, they do a 3" 4" and now a 2.5" lift kit.

the 3" kit you will need to ask them for as they do, do it its just not on there website.

I have the 3" kit from them and i think it great. i dont find it overly to bumpy and the springs have been uprated more then others to allow bulbars and such so you dont get premature sag

hay gough i have a 99 jimny aswell i had the king springs aswell and yes they where a bit soft (could almost roll it with one person) so i invested in the 80mm tough dog kit and it looks great not to tall and not to low its just right (dosent look out of place so hopefully the cops wont really know), the ride is ok not that hard as some people said it was going to be.

I know I have promoted the OME 40mm lift before but....

I would spend my money elsewhere next time

well, if i get a 4" lift what else do I need to do to my jimny, to make it safe to drive ?

Atleast some 15x7 -10 offset wheels and 215/75 tyres but if your going that high go 237/75 or 30 inch tyres

maybe a bit too high for me, well for now it is, what about a 2.5 inch lift what would need to be done for that ?
I have heard the ultimate suspension are good, what is everyones thoughts of them ?

Haven't heard of any Jimny on here running Ultimate.
I'm currently running 80mm tough dogs. My first lift was 40mm kings.
I don't have a bar so can't comment on its effect but I feel that the non winch bar TD coils dive more in the front than the Kings. I think Jimnys naturally dive in at the front.

I ran 40mm coils with 215/75R15 tyres at first then when I switched to 235/75R15 I added 20mm coil spacers. Once you start getting over 60mm things start to get expensive.

Ok, so if I did a 50mm lift, what would be involved, do I need to extend the break lines, all new to this but want a bit more clearance, currently running 235/75R15 but thinking of going to 225/75r15.

I concur. I have an ARB bullbar with m8000 winch and full exo roll cage. I have 30mm spacers and the front is only 5mm above standard, so that means the springs have effectively sagged 75mm. I am looking into some 3" diesel jimny spec'd coils from the UK. I may just need a small spacer for the right to counter driver weight.

I will be adding a rear swing away tyre carrier at some point so that will add more weight to the back.

Yeah but Bugsta is an exception, his coil have had the life flogged out of them along with the rest of his Jimny.

50mm lift, all you'll need is the coils, shocks, and caster bushes.

Umm... you flog your Jimny to within an inch of it life, then just when it looks dead you flog it some more. Just sayin'!!

You've said yourself that you drive it hard and when we try to tell you that you drive like you don't know what you're doing, you just say that's your way of having fun 4WDing.

Full throttle and hard hits at speed is how the suspension will get 'the life flogged out of it'. I'm no metallurgist, but common sense says components will fail when treated that way.

I made that point because I don't feel that your experiences can be used as a realistic example for a newbie.
