I'll try to keep it brief..

Fuel tank was leaking, thought I'd run it low on fuel to make removal easier, ran out of fuel on the freeway.

Filled up a jerry, topped up the tank, started and drove way with no worries.

Get home and replaced the tank, topped it up with about 15-20L it started and I let it run for a while. No worries I thought sweet job done.

Went had a shower, did my make up ready to go out, then It died up around the corner. It was kinda spluttering and when I went to start it again, It wouldn't rev past 2000rpm. :/

I thought hmm must've sucked up some shit and blocked the filter. Towed it home, Replaced the filter, I noticed a kink in the fuel line and straightened that out thinking ahh that's why it wasn't feeding more fuel, after a few tries it started and gave it a few high revs and let it run while I went to wash my hands I thought sweet job done.

I thought I'd better turn it off and try again.. But no go.


Soooo what would the chances be that the fuel pump has run dry and is on it's way out? Debris in the carby?

Are we talking mechanical fuel pump?

Pull the inlet fuel line off the carby/fuel intake and see that the pump is supplying pressure. If you ran the tank dry it could be crap has gone through the pump and filled up some jets in your carby.

I've started it up and it's been ideling for about 5 mins, and Ive given it a few revs to unblock anything. Seems ok now.. I'll see how it go's.

No go,

It seems like the filter is being emptied before it can be filled back up.. Perhaps the feed line is blocked?

I shoved a wire down it before installing it so it's got me stumped.

how it didn't crank over at all when it was on a side angle? not sure about that.
BTW I got the transfer working

This only happened when I've installed another tank. The only thing I can think of is that the vaccum line is fkd..

I have had the same problem before. On the way home from a trip lost all power stopped by the side of the road wouldn't idle, gave it a good dose of start ya bastard and a bootful of revs and its was fin again for the rest of the way home. Id say its some crap in the fuel tank/lines/carb that has caused it all. I am going to pull apart my carb and clean it all out again and run another filter between the pump and carb, with a new pump and fuel filter near the tank.

If you need a bit of stuff fuel pumps appear to be quite cheap from rockauto.com in the states.

Is there a vacumn present in the tank? Will it run with the fuel filler cap removed?

i ran my fuel pump dry and it died (lift pump to the surge tank) lesson learnt running them dry lol 6hrs stuck on the high way.
