hey guys not zook related but as iv decided to get a hilux im finding it hard to find some guys in brisbane that can help me out.
Im having trouble with my suspension and steering.

1986 sfa hilux extra cab
Its a 2 inch lift no body lift was in the car when i got im wondering if someone who i could maybe come show so they can have a look and give me tips or ideas what could be wrong or what needs to be done.

I have replaced all bushes seals and beerings in front end new springs new steering box draglink rubbers and bushers.

And still its either imposible to turn or cant turn.

Im an apprentice fitter and turner and able to to use steel welder lathe mill what ever i need to fix the problem

Is it physically hard to turn?

If its hard to turn, then probably best option is installing a power steering box from a newer model.

Also check that there is oil/greese in the steering box and that the steering adjuster has not been wound in to far.
(often people wind the adjuster in to try and get rid of slop in the steering)

Do you have larger wheels?

I read into that as something is stuck, bound up or broken.

Tried disconnecting stuff to determine which parts move as they should and which ones don't?

CV could do that.

Disconnect the draglink at the pitman or pitman at the box. Raise the front wheels. Try steering the wheels by hand. If they move fine it's your steering box or steering shaft. If they don't you'd have to think it's in the steering knuckle.

I had an 85 and seem to recall a uni on the steering shaft seizing. If it's on the knuckle end I'd be looking at CV like mentioned.

PS Outerlimits used to be the hilux mecca back in the days after everyone moved away from snake racings forum. I would have thought you could get some help there. Unless it's turned into the pretentious noob hating forum that so many others have.

Lux's are a bitch and heavy steering normal. Part of the problem is their shit unique steering. J' arm.

Id look into powersteering with an ifs lux/surf box or cruiser box, and custom draglink to a normal style steering system/ highsteer kit from lowrangeoffroad for RHD!

Hey guys thanks heaps for your info.
I did think it was the cv after fully rebuilding both swivel hubs and replacing the cvs. It isnt that so i undone the drag link and the wheels swivel fine the steering box moves free.
After pulling the draglink apart after only replacing the insides of it a week ago they are all chipped and broken so there must be force between the j arm and steering box i think i might have to look into making a new drag link or buy a drop drag link also been told i might need to get a adjustable torque rod as well.
But yes i think powersteering option might be the go.
Anyone done the conversion or hi steer conversion?

It will be pretty straightforward, but will need some new mounts on the chassis, drilled, crush tubed and welded

Not worth keeping the J arm Or getting an adjustable torque rod. The rods rip diff mounts anyway with serious offroad

My brothers was real heavy, so I looked at it and the adjuster bolt had snapped of in the pump, pulled the pump out, ez out the bolt and it was back to normal... Gotta think outside the box

Going to try a drop drag link and adjustable torque rod and see how that works.
Been told to check the screw on the side of the steering box so ill have a look but theres not much play in the steering wheel but yeah one thing at a time till i figure it out.

Any one want to swap my hilux for a sierra?
I miss my hard top sierra and this hilux is doing my head in

time for craptaction or outters for you i think.

there is nothing wrong with sierras and i would take one over my old lux anyday of the week. dont come here bagging them out because you know how to roll bobcats.
