Hey guys,
Got a few issues with my interior light and door jamb switches.

I've noticed that my door jamb switches dont work. I pulled one out and its corroded to buggery. Not salvagable so they need to be replaced. Does anyone know where I can get some, cant find them anywhere.

Second issue. My interior light doesn't work when I turn it to on..
I've pulled out the multimeter and tested the heck out of it, and cant work it out for the life of me.

I've traced the cable, and tested if there is 12v with the multimeter and it seems as though there is and then it goes away...that is, if i test it now, and then again in 10 minutes, the 12v vanishes.
At first i thought ih ad a bad earth so i earthed the multimeter to the chasis, at different spots, and same issue.

I've noticed that the earth for the light runs through a diode, but I have no idea what it's sharing the diode with *blue/black cable*

in short of running new cables from the battery to the interior light, what else could be wrong in this picture. I'm pretty nifty with electrical work but this has been shitting me for weeks. Cant seem to find a logical explination everytime i try and fix it.

IMO just wire in something completely new and piss the old one off. Save yourself the drama.

Check the joiner above the fusebox where the wires come out above where the speaker would/does go.
Interior lights work by power to light then earthed to function either at the switch on the light or at the door switch.
You should have constant power at the light.

i just bought a couple of led strip lighting off ebay for like $2 each and wired one up for the interior and one up out the back in the tray
they are 100% better than the original interior light
its like daylight when you switch them on

they are on a separate circuit and switch as i hate loosing my night vision by opening the door
but i like to have lots of light when i want it

I think you should replace your current one with an LED light, even though that wont solve your problems.

My bloody 1l soft top doesn't even have an interior light. You guys with WTs don't know just how many luxury features you get!

Does your interior light have a fade away option ? Like when you close the door does it slowly dim til its out ?

I'd be amazed if they are on anything older than a GV or late model Jim. Just seems like one of those useless luxuries that Suzuki never really bothered with on their 4WDs.

Jimnys are neg switched so they wont have it either plus really what the point of it why would it need to be faded away when you shut the doors? rather then just turning off.

For some reason, I dont know why, i had an inkling to install LED's...

I ended up ripping it all up and running fresh new wires and i also threw out the door switches, they were corroded to buggery.

It is negatively switched, and the master loom is on the passenger side, behind the rear speaker, the drivers door is just a slave.

I ran 2 LED strips, which meant i had to run power to the the drivers side , no biggie.
New switches were from Jaycar,...fully adjustable so you can get the length, just right.

I also bought and wired up a LED switch in the back so when i open the hatch, I can turn on the light, for when im camping, or skinning/gutting game in the back in dark.

Since the install, I've had 3 mates ask me to do the same in their 4bies. Pricks..

All these light look fantastic but here is a problem I see with what you are doing.

The factory lights are pretty dull, buy when you are driving and someone else turns on the light to read a map, find out where there beer is, check there make up etc you can still see the road and continue driving safely.

Imagine is its raining a bit so all the windows are up, the floor is hot, the water is dripping in your windscreen is fogging up like a motha fucka and then someone turns on these lights. You wont see anything but the steering wheel.

Now I am not saying don't fit good lights but maybe just fit one little light for when you are driving and need the light on and keep the rest for when you are stopped.

i still have the original interior light in the Sierra just above the drivers head but have added an LED map reading light into the back, fixed to the inside of the hardtop, turns on by pushing the lense. lights up heaps and you can bend it round a bit. i have the 15cm one but you can get a longer one ( 40cm ).
