Hi, I have a 1993 *insert car here* and it has a *stiff/broken/leaking* power steering box. Can I directly fit the steering box from a 1998 *insert car here* because I've been looking for a replacement but I can only find one from a 1998. Is it going to bolt straight up, am I gong to have to change lines or anything?
I'm going to consult my Ouija board and try and help based on what you've asked. Please don't think I"m taking th episs out of your spelling, grammar or expression - you haven't told us which car or what you are trying to achieve.
If you're asking about 1993 and 1998 Vitaras, then yes, I believe the steering box will bolt in. However, there were differences year to year on the fittings used on the box. I have few Vitara power steering boxes here and some have different return fittings, and they're not interchangeable. I'd suggest directly comparing the two boxes with the fittings removed, or snagging all the lines at the time you get the box.
Also, bear in mind that 1993 and 1998 vitaras have different chassis, so the hard lines won't directly swap over. It might be possible to be bend them to fit, but it's unlikely to be a straight swap.
Bear in mind 1998 is the changeover year to the grand vitara. Grand vitara steering is totally different (Rack and pinion) so that won't fit at all.
I would have thought it was easier to find a 1993 power steering box compared to a 1998 - the late, 2.0 vitaras are quite rare in comparison to the 1.6 cars.
