IMO comparing fuel economy with different drivers, different locations & different mods seems a bit of a waste of time.

i can pull decent economy one minute driving line a nanna, then turn around & thrash it for a bit & watch the gauge go down like it's got a hole in the tank.

to the people getting bad economy, what type of roads are you driving?

Flat?
Hilly?
Windy?
Highway?
Traffic?

so many variables it's almost pointless trying to compare from one zook to the next.

i've logged the last 10,000kms of fuel usage & i can see the variations in usage from the different types of driving i've done compared to the normal 9 to 5 mon/fri commute.... might only be a slight difference but even doing a run up through the hills or a short highway run will show up.

If you're going to compare your fuel usage please do it consistently.

To get a decent average, Record over at least three fill-ups;

- Litres purchased
- Odometer kms since last fill

Multiply the kms x the percentage that your oversized tyre's diameter has increased over the standard tyres.

eg;

30.6L + 29.7L + 32.5L = 92.8

280km +275km + 299km = 854 + 10% = 939.40

Divide your kms by the litres used and hey presto accurate fuel usage.

EDIT Vaso just corrected me via PM on this:

Is actually 10.12 kms/L (NOT L/100kms)


This can be done on a single fill-up but for a more accurate average the more fills you spread it over the more accurate the average. Also using the same bowser were practical will be more accurate, and filling to the auto-stop of the nozzle and not filling all the way up the neck.

I have a 05 Jimny manual with VVT, 4" lift, 235/75R15 MTs, stock gearing, xrox bar, LF spotties, free flowing exhaust system, use nothing but 98ron, and no roof basket and not loaded up with anything other than recovery gear.

In the city I consistently get 400kms per tank. On the open road trying to maintain 100/110kmh, I get approx 380kms per tank. EDIT: these figure are on the dash, so not taking into account the tyre size difference over stock.

I always fill up when the needle gets to the E 'line' (last line on guage), and is usually 35-36lts to fill. And I drive it hard to at least keep up with traffic.

Going off GPS km's the best I got from 37L was about 340 something.

Thats 40mm Lift, ARB Bar with winch, Roofbasket etc

I get 400kms in the city and ~380kms in the country on the dash, so no I have not corrected for tyre size.

OK here is my fuel economy

I have an 02` non VVT jimny, 3 inch lift with spacers, roof racks, ARB bull bar, MIC off road rear bar, 235 MT's, snorkel, extractors and a 2 inch exhaust system.

All the refills I've used in the calculation include high way (one trip from Brisbane to the sunshine coast and back) and city driving (till refill) on RON95 fuel.

328km + 353km + 361km + 341km = 1383km + 11% = 1535km

35.08L + 37.08L + 36.26L + 35.49L = 143.9L

(143.9L / 1535km) x 100 = 9.37L/100km

When it was stock I got 440-460 now with 215/75, roof rack, awning and light bar on the roof I get 330-350. Car is 3 months old. Half would be highway driving and rest around town.
