The angle should be no worse then now The vit output might be centered but its heaps high The sierra case is to the right but alot lower U might be able to clock the case a bit to make it better

Ok, so just doing some more research With the gearing options, what my aim is to bring the FDR (final drive ratio) back somewhere closer to stock. So I've been using a gearing calculator provided for us in our awesome ' Good Tech Section ' So the final drive ratio on 225/75r15, 29.28inch tyre (stock tyre size) is pictured below on the right And the modified ratio is on the left, I have based it on use with 4.3 ratio diffs as I was informed earlier that these are available for use with vitaras. This image being the settings applied to get the numbers The difference between the final drive ratios I think that at 3750 rpm should be a good highway cruising speed. As our motors make peak power/torque around 5000 - 5500rpm, this will provide good response on the highway What are people's thoughts on this?

IF you can find 4.3 diffs then yeah those numbers work the 100km/h in 5th is a bit low really. Your low range is gonna be goddam aweful. 36:1
Plus by the time you have bought all the bits and made them fit. which is not going to be easy by any means.
2 diffs in 4.3. 1 sierra transfer case
honestly just buy an undertaker, much less work. you will end up with around 4400 in 5th which is bit high but better than low. this is all assuming that you have 5.1 diffs now ofcourse

double check the stock tyre size, pretty sure it's not a 225/75r15

got_bar_work wrote: Is it.205/70/15 like a sierra Yep you and Atari are right. I was going off the original tyre sizes that were on mine. Just looked at the placard. 205 70 r15. Just recalcu-malated with 4.6 diffs, that will give me Perhaps the 4.6 diffs could be the go then, I will have slightly better low range.and there's alway the option of dropping a set of gears in for extra low range later on. Also it will rev slightly higher than compared to stock on the highway, which will always be a bonus i guess when your pushing bigger tyres

got_bar_work wrote: Ur going to need some sort of gears A stock sierra case sucks in lowrange with 31 Is that perhaps because of the ratios of the gearbox in front of it. If you have a look at the finial drive ratios, it will actually make them better than the stock transfer

Why so low? The low range doesn't seem so terrible now I'm not looking at some rock crawling monster

i personally wouldnt think it needs to be quite so low.
but on 31s 30:1 is going to be really bad trust me. you will find it dying on hill climbs
i would say if you can come up with 50:1 it will be enough

I run around now with 31's and I've never encountered whilst 4wding a hill that required more than what 1st gear low range can provide. I don't need to crawl at half a kilometre an hour...

No mate I'm running 5.125 diffs now. I'll need to run 4.6's to correct the over correction of the sierra box... That is because I wish to take it back to driving like its stock, or as close to as possible Your on the west coast, I'll hit up a few wreckers around here first and see what pops up first, thanks though.

My recollection of stock gearing is that it sucked arse - snatchy as fuck off the line and buzzing it's head off at freeway speeds. While the former may have something to do with my aggressive driving, the latter was actually better with 31s IMO. Overall an over-correction, and crap in lowrange, but I reckon my ideal gearing for road would be something like the equivalent of 235s with 5.12s, and transfer gears for offroad.

Something close to 5000 rpm at 110km/h... No thanks buddy, I want something that drives like a stock vit, not a 1.0L stock sierra
