Hi,
Hope this is the right thread. I've been lurking for a good six months and have a query-

I bought a new (pre face lift) Jimny in April. I mostly ride a motorbike to work and back and really only use the car for shopping and exploring on the rare occasion I have a weekend off. I know.... I should drive it more.... But seriously the bike is heaps better in traffic. heh.
Anyway, since April the car's only done 4600kms. It's been 6 months since the 1000km service.
Should I do an intermediate service? As in, change the oil and filter every six months as opposed to the manual's recommendation of 1 year/15,000kms?

Just wondering whether it will do the car any good considering it's not living a hard life right now... or whether I'd be pissing the money up the wall?

Oil degrades with time, as well as use. You won't be wasting money to just do oil and filter every 6 months, that's what I do with mine

Don't suppose anyone knows the part number for a genuine Suzuki oil filter that would fit my 2012 Jimny? I want to keep it genuine only for now, at least until my warranty runs out..... ...in five years time... :/

Also, what type of oil/viscosity would be the way to go? I can't seem to find the recommended oil type in the manual. Cheers again

I'd say a 10W/30 oil would be sufficient. Can't tell you the part number sorry, Stekky may wander through and shed some knowledge

the dealership will.
if you dont throw a genuine filter on, say good bye to the warranty.
also oil weight recommended in the manual is 0w-20 as the preferred.
i had trouble finding it so i used 5w-20
all the info is in the manual, look under volumes and specifications, it shows the graph with oil viscosity and the ambient temperature etc.

Yeah I want to keep the warranty for as long as possible, hence only cosmetic/interior changes have taken place... I'm not concerned about losing the warranty on the rear seats which are no longer present. The engine however, is still there and I want to keep her stock! Which means I can't get a snorkel according to Suzuki Australia as 'the non-factory supported accessory may adversely affect engine operation and void any associated parts.'

I bought it new because I've had too many nightmares with second hand cars. My last car, a Mazda Tribute, was a fuel-guzzling PoS. Utter shit. So I want to look after this one as best as I can.

I shall go to my local dealer on Monday (they're behind my work) and grab a filter or two.... They might even sell me some oil?? Or at least give me a recommendation.
They can't say anything about me servicing my car, can they? As in me not being a 'trained mechanic' ??? .... Or should I go to a different dealer? (As in, the dealer behind my work is where I will get it serviced next.... for the official service, so should I keep them in the dark about me servicing it myself?)

dealer will have oil, also to keep the warranty you will need to have a dealer service every 6 months, either from a suzuki dealer or a recognized dealer service centre (ultratune etc)
havent heard about the snorkel one as i was informed it will be fine as long as it isnt responsible for engine damage.\
rear seats not being in the vehicle should be fine also, as long as if there is a malfunction with it they cant prove it was from them being removed or stored incorrectly.

dont worry bout warranty to much, as the scamming bastards will find a way to get out of it.
i purchased my zook from new and ive never been back to the dealer, not even for the free 1000km service, i do it for a living so im not letting some hack touch my zook. only time i see them is to get oil filters, thats enough for them to jump out of any warranty claim more thasn likely, but i will have done 100 000km by the end of next year anyway,
engines for these zooks are pretty cheap any way. and i have a lift kit so there goes all the suspension and steeering claims,

Yeah, but I know how to change oil and a filter.... parts should cost maybe $90, tops... and 20 minutes of my time... I save money where I can (I'm a couple of grand from paying the car off! Yay for tight-arses!).

I'll get them to do the log book services, i'll do the 6 months stuff myself I think.

The sFactory service book says 12months or 15000kms so to retain warranty those are the minimums.

Yes that's right. However, i'm discussing whether it is worth doing it every six months anyway which I think would be the way to go.
I want to do it myself though. I'll get suzuki to do every second service for the log book stuff, but the 'in-between' service I will do myself. C'mon, it's a piece of cake.... I'm not going to pay a 15 year old apprentice $170 to change my oil and filter... :/

They won't know, nor will they care, if you've done an intermediate service. If a warranty claim arises they'll just look at the service history to see if it has had the Suzuki nominated schedule done. Who's to know you've done a few in between?

warranty is bull shit anyway, they will find some way to weasel out of it if they can, so i just do what i want to it, and service it at work and stamp it.
i have a dicky oil pressure sensor that is getting replaced, under warranty but im installing it.
