when i changed from carby to EFI the bottom end was also replaced, which meant a new engine number... i strolled into the pits in osborne park expecting them to want to inspect the work carried out, but all they wanted to know was if the manufacturer or capacity had changed... i said no, but that its a whole new motor... and they couldnt care less... then gave me an A4 sheet to fill out with the old engine number, new one, rego info etc. No questions asked.. They even adjusted my engineering papers to suit. Best of all - IT WAS FREEEEEEE!

just hold onto your original engine block so no one can reuse it

This.

Though the internet seems to go against what I said. I've been meaning to ask what a change of engine number and body colour requires but the nearest police station/courthouse is about an hour away. Let me know if you find out! :)

found this ^, doesnt look like a pits inspection is needed. only when changing cylinders, fuel or HP rating. might give them a call anyway

I can confirm all you need to do is go down to the Dept of Transport and fill out a form with the new engine number change. A few years ago I did this when I had a new rebuild engine swap. As long as the engine number starts with same numbers ie, G13BAXXXXXXX to G13BAYYYYYYYY there should not be any issue.

Yep
and Yep  (it's just my project mentality - upgrade until you find the next weak point, then upgrade that and so on. Not economical or sensible, but you never get bored!)

Shut up you!!

anyway, spoke to suzistore today and they recon that they have seen this before and with a new head fitted it ran good without dramas! :o i dont really want to go down this path, as i dont know if i would trust the motor in the long run.

rebuild or drop in!

well you've gone to the effort of having the head done so you might as well source a g16b bottom end and go new pistons etc now (and bolt the other shit on).

Sucks though... always happens with jobs like this.

Could be an opportunity to go j20 though... lol

well the thing is, with the vits being IFS to get the sump off the front diff has to come out which would be a pain in the arse. So saying just go get a bottom end and source new pistons is all well and good if you have a clean place to rebuild it. That is something which i dont have close by, I could do it at my dads house with no dramas but thats an hr drive away.

I dont want to J20 it, as it would mean going over the pits and would be to much work. Have asked for a price on a low km motor and also a block, just to weigh up my options. If Suzistore dont have any low km motors i might get one of there re-cond and just drop it in........pretty much back to square one!

Devcon it ala missmyljdaze post, I doubt they leak anyway.

All you've got to lose is a gasket set and a relatively small amount of time. :) Even if it doesn't work out(won't be anything more than a minor leak like before) then you've got time/a driveable car to build up a good bottom end. :)

I know what you mean about not trusting it though.

Well went into suzistore on wed and after having a long think i decided that the best option for me at the moment was to get them to build me a motor. Went in there today to drop off my new head and the other stuff i had already bought for the job (gaskets/seals) and asked how everything was going and got told that it should be ready by wed :o I was told the 15th of dec originally not the 5th.

Knowing this, I now need to either find an engine crane or get a tow truck. I was planning on pulling the box out and replacing it at the same time and with the box out fit my new transfer.

Still waiting to hear back on the go from 2 gearbox's, if i can get one of them soon then thats great but i cant see me having either of the box's here within a week.

its not to bad, just getting a bit crunchy. apparently 80-90 is to thick and can make them crunch, brian recon 70ish grade is better. I was thinking, if im going to drop the gearbox to get these reduction gears in then i might as well just swap out the box as well. Ive booked time off work for next fri-mon so i get a 4 day W.E and had planned on doing it then.

but looks like i might just be attempting the swap with the gearbox up, change the box oil and see how it goes.
