im guessing you mean r.u.f

you could just relocate your shackle hanger to get the desired shackle angle

There are probably more threads on doing a RUF than any other subject here.

Have you ever used the search function?

Longer rear springs, longer shocks and repositioning of the shackle mounts will gain travel.

This is pretty much all the info you need. If you understand what is happening or required for a RUF then you will be able to work out what is required for the rear end.

Time to get ya tape measure out!

I ordered a set of front CJ springs from Tony at usa 4x4 in Melb for around $280 shipped, and some 3in longer shackles from LROR for $100 which allowed for the whole set-up to bolt straight in. Sits about 2.5in higher than stock with all leafs in the pack, however I recommend taking the longest spring (not the primary or main) out from the pack so it sits a bit lower and rides/flex's better. While the long ass shackle isnt ideal for departure angle or road handling, it's going to provide more down travel, and allowed for a bolt in set-up. This combined with RUF will be a pretty sweet set-up for me, and once the Baleno motor goes in, I look forward to testing it out. I do feel that with this set-up, raised springs (rears) in the front will be better suited than the stocks, as the suzuki items seem really soft. But I'm still yet to drop a leaf from the CJ springs yet, and if your running a light truck, it will work great.

Oh, Im not sure at this stage if the diff will hit the fuel tank, as I suspect it will. But I'm running a different tank so will be making the mounts to suit. That extra 1.5in of wheelbase is very handy in the rear.

1.5" extension would be FAR better in the front.

A combo of both would be good.
2.5" in the front on my old one was good. An extra 1.5" in the rear would be nice.

OK he's asking about more rear flex so forget the RUF talk.

On the rear you can move the top mounts for your shocks inwards. This allows you to run longer shocks which will allow for more travel. This is just the start. Next you may need to remove a leaf, put in longer shackles, tailshaft spacers, move exhaust tailpipe and adjust the handbrake cable brackets.

Stay away from drop shackles, those things are dangerous.

Obvious question - why do you think you need more rear travel? More rear travel is a bit of a poisoned chalice. The most critical time you need to get the car to balance is whilst climbing, at which point the best thing you can do to make the car feel balanced is to stop the rear flexing, because when the car is on a compound angle, rear flex will make the car want to flop over.

We've had a number of cars in the club down here with stuff all rear travel/flex and there's absolutely nothing wrong with their performance offroad.

Jo has the easiest mod thus far. I now carry 20l of fuel and 20l of water in the back as far back as i can. does nothing for down travel but. only make the compressed spring compress more (and speed humps bearable)

If you knew what was involved in a RUF you would understand the relevance of it being mentioned in relation to the rear.
The process of gaining more artic via longer springs is the same front as rear.

even this girly coil sprung IFS vitara owner understands the relevance of the theory behind RUF being used to put in a longer spring that works in the rear to gain more flex. Image

I'd rather narrow the spring spacing than fit longer springs.

Reduced roll stiffness and more articulation without any effect on axlewrap or spring rate.

Why don't people like flex? My bucket was more capable/balanced unlocked on 235's with heaps of flex than it was single locked on 31's with really crap flex. It didn't flop as often with the extra travel...
