Ok I am selling my Sierra which had a 1600 fitted, I sold that and put a standard 1328CC G13A back in it. When I first put the motor in it would start after cranking for 10-15 seconds, if I turned it off and restarted it immediately it would start with no delay. It was left sitting for about a month and when I came back it would not start. I managed to work out there was no fuel getting to the carby by pouring petrol in the crby, it ran when I did that. So I disconnected the inlet hose on the fuel pump and placed in in a tin of petrol, still no joy. I assumed the pump was buggered, so I bought a new one, looks exactly the same. Fitted that and still nothing, tried the tin trick again, no difference. So I removed the pump and checked out the rod and it was a bit stuck, so I cleaned it and greased it so it moved easily, put it all back together and the POS still won't go, anybody got any suggestions please?

Sounds like your out of fuel to me.

or something has happened between the fuel pump and the fuel tank.

Fuel pump Inlet hose cracked/split allowing the pump to suck air rather than petrol.

Or you've connected the hoses wrong on the fuel pump.

Hoses are definitely the right way round, can rule out fuel tank issues as put inlet hose for pump straight into a tin of petrol. Tried a new piece of hose, no difference.

ignore the pump, there should be more than enough fuel in the float bowl to start it and get it to running temp, check its not all dribbling out somewhere while it sits

Yes, but I need the pump to work still? There is no fuel leakage anywhere, I have cranked it for ages (not nonstop of course) with no result.

Fuxed! Stupid spring clamp on the supply line wasn't doing its job, replaced with a proper hose clamp and she's away!
