Hi Zookers... Been stripping down the Litte SWB Project and stripped all the interior today to give a good clean up and spruce up... Pulled out the old cassette head unit that a previous owner installed and butchered the consol to install. Also pulled out the dead clock, ciggi lighter and ashtray and had a bit of a thought that as well as intall a new CD player I might modify the lower area where the ashtray etc is located and install the UHF radio there.

Has anyone done this? I'd love to see some pics etc... I've tried to search but no luck...

What UHF are you using? I've seen the small Unidens installed in the ashtray hole of Sierras. I ended up screwing mine just above my left knee as I'm using the GME and that was really the only ideal spot for it

Hey Scrawn. I've got a Icom sitting in the shed which I was going to put in my new Paj but I'm thinking of getting one of the new remote speaker mic units instead of pulling the dash apart which is a nightmare. So I might put the Icom in the Vitara. It has a full din kit or I can install without the din kit which makes the unit about 10% smaller. I don't want to mount it near my knees. Not enough room as it is. There are other options but as I have no need for the dead clock (cd player has clock anyway) nor the ashtray and I have lotsa options where i can put power sockets so it makes sense to mount under the CD player. I'll just have to manufacture a mount and facia. If someone has already successfully done this it just makes my job easier :)

In the older GV's you can remove the digital clock and storage pocket and install a full din UHF in its place.

The other option is to get a removable face UHF and you can mount the facia in the area just above the air vents.
