is it just oziexplorer with a custom UI and the hema maps loaded on?

hate to tell ya, but if thats the case... I got a 70 dollar navman that I "hacked" with oziexplorer, made a custom "Suzuki" UI for it based on the Hema navigators interface, then I added a couple of normal on-road apps. Afterwards, I loaded the hema maps I require onto it as well as all of 250k and 100k maps of aus that you can download freely from the net.

Benefit of using a Navman is the touchscreen resolution/response and overall is of better quality vs all those chinese units, And I can still fallback to standard navman mode too.

Total cost, 70 dollar GPS + $30 Oziexplorer registration. The HEMA maps are pretty expensive though, but you can just buy the area you live in. Ive heard you can find them around online though if you're into that sort of thing.
I think oziexplorer ce is $40 now too... Ive had it for many years.


Oh, Navman isn't the only brand unit you can do this to BTW, theres a whole heap of them.

This is a sample of my custom UI I made for Ozi. I have this on file if anyone wants a copy, its based on a 480x272 res so should suit most units.

fair enough. I dont like playing about with that sorta thing really i like to be able to buy it press the on button and it does what i want it to. i did read a few of the threads on gps stuff on here about setting up the other units with topo mapping but to be honest its something i cant really be bothered doing. something things i love fiddling with(wood, mechanical stuff, women) other things i really dont have any patience for(computer stuff) I dont mind paying for this type of thing, things like servicing of my bike i wont ever pay for because i really enjoy working on it and its something i can sit and put effort into.

Totally get ya mate. just throwing it out there, just cos its my cup o' tea, doesnt mean its yours
for the record, the only hard part was setting it up. It is literally now like you say "press on button and it does what you want" theres no fancy trickery now its set up.

If hema's were only around 2 or 3 hunge, I would have one too. I think they are dreaming for 600 though. I guess most of the cost is the rights to the maps more than the hardware itself.

now im on nightshift i might have some time to fix the UI to the new hema 6 interface, i like it more than the old version.

I just struggle with that sorta thing. I know its not that hard but it frustrates me so it goes no where hahaha ive thrown my fair share of laptops across the office.

Yeah i know the feeling sometimes. I love this sorta shit though.

I just spent the last few hours making the UI LOOK like the hema nav 6 style. I dont have any fancy icons that they have (yet) but the button layout and functionality etc is now identical.
Its good, cos the stock Ozi layout sucks ass, not very intuitive on its own.

Threw some screens up, these arent all the pages. But you get the idea.
Cant wait to upload onto my device and try it.
All the little black lines are invisible in real life btw, these are shots from the editor program.

Just bid on the hema raster dvd on ebay, 2013 in 0zfx4 format.
It is slowly getting into my price range.
Not been real happy with the oziex topo maps, as they are made from very old maps.
But were cheap, functioned well, and learnt me the tech needed.
So hopefully I'll be happy with the hema maps.
Assuming I win the bid.

Is that on a dvd? if so i have it here, i'll copy it for you (assuming thats possible) for nix. Dunno what the format is but it doesnt work on mac
I got all that with the polaris in dash heap of shit in my navara, total waste of time that thing.
Also have it on a micro sd card that the dopey bastards left in my car when they were fitting it all up

Thanks for offer Rich, but now own the disc.
Just installed the 2013 Hema 4wd Maps onto my cheapy ebay GPS.
I am very impressed with the clarity, quality and function,
especially compared to the 30 year old maps I was running on Ozi Explorer
I had recently updated the Oziex to OzX4 so I was already ready to use the new files on the disc
Now to test the thing in the bush as soon as possible.
