I think that tyres and a heavy right foot have a lot to do with busting CVs. A lot of people fit the most aggressive, grippy tyres that they can find and they put a lot of extra stress on the drivetrain, add a heavy right foot and you break stuff. I favour a tall tyre for ground clearance and a narrow tyre for reliability, currently I run 33 x9.5 BFG MTs with no reliability issues but I do have 5:83 R&Ps so the taller tyre doesn't kill the torque too badly.

i have run the calmini kit for about 2 years i havent broken a cv yet touch wood. i run 235 75s and rear locker but i drive carefully cause i still have a glass front diff

reckon you'd be hard pressed to find a more reliable vitara with the amount of regular wheeling it does... apart from the maintenance stuff & the fresh engine, from memory you've had very little in the way of breakages over the years.

i'd throw in the diff drops for sure & look into skid plates... my CV's are almost flat at ride height.

if you're chasing chassis clearance, you've got 2 options, larger tyres or more lift, both are going to put essentially the same stresses on essentially the same parts & you've just bought tyres & anything larger than 31's on a Vitara makes dailying it a chore & you already have the spring spacers & the other bits... see where i'm going with this.

just bung it in FFS.

Atari- Thanks for the comment, Yeah i havent had to many major issues over the years so the vit has been good to me. Do you recon it would matter if you dont fit a dropped pinion mount?
