Hey everyone, after reading all the debates on OME vs EFS I decided on OME as my sierra will be spending more time on road than offroad, so it only makes sense to have the more comfortable ride, however! I found out today that a friend works at a supplier of EFS, so now I'm considering the EFS setup.. Or, as the title states, the OME springs with EFS shocks, bolts, bushes etc. tried the search and didn't see that people have done it, all discussion would be appreciated greatly! Engine's been sent off for a complete rebuild and my 2"BL and extractors arrived yesterday, so I'm getting pretty amped to get her on the road for the first time! :rambo:

You'll get the best out of the Ome springs if you use them with the Ome shocks.

yeah, without any maths, go for a kit, but:

If there is a significant mates rates discount, which it sound like is important, I would just go for the EFS, if its less about the money and you've decided on OME for the ride go that way...

I recon efs shocks would be better :) ome shocks are a bit ordinary. Efs shocks might be a tad longer... (just guessing because efs springs are longer)

I'm an apprentice, so money is a bit of an issue haha just figured a 2" shock couldn't be that different to another 2" shock, if anything I thought it would be stiffer as the EFS springs are a stiffer/taller ride

Also, this is what I was quoted by ARB for the OME, the shocks seem a bit pricey, hence considering the EFS.

Front Springs $200.00pr
Front Shocks $180.00pr
Spring Bushes $ 60.00
Ubolts $ 44.00
Steering Damper $135.00

Rear Springs $270.00pr
Rear Shocks $300.00pr
Spring Bushes $ 60.00
Ubolts $ 44.00

Can't really comment on the Sierra OME shocks, but, OME shocks are from "ordinary" - the ones on my GV are definitely longer travel, and the rear shocks are noticeably larger than stock.

Ride wise - the difference is also noticeable - OME claims they are valved to suit their springs and I see no reason to doubt that.

Fair enough I just fitted a hole ome suspension to a suzuki Sierra and the ome shocks felt to soft and it bounced a lot, they must get better as they springs settle in :)

Suspension kits should be made as such, meaning the shocks are the right length and valved to suit the springs height/length and rate.
If money is tight then just go the Efs kit compleat or take a bit longer and save up for what you really want then spend your money once.

I have had OME springs in two zooks now and have found them quite good, I didn't match them with the OME shockies as I found them to be much dearer than other manufacturers. But the springs have been great.

Just my experience, and limited at that - but - the couple of incidents I've come across where folks reported a full OME kit as being bouncy or too stiff - all traced back to incorrect spring selection - they had chosen or been recommended a heavier spring in order to get increased lift.

It did sit about 25mm higher then my zook on 30s and its only mod was a lift so ur probably right ;)

Ahkay, is the EFS really all that bad? I drive 500 Kms a week for work, so I'd like to have a comfy ride, but if the EFS isn't that bad I could probably deal with it

The 3" efs springs are the ones that people complain about.

Removing leaves may improve the ride.

Ah damn, might have to, I'll see how it drives, my current daily is a van and the suspension is horrible, so this will probably still be better haha

In my experience when you pull leaves the spring fatigues faster and turns into a big S bend. That's fine if you don't mind replacing springs often but if your on a budget then it's a false economy. That's why I suggest saving for the right stuff for what you want to achieve, you'll save money in the long run.

Hahaha Steve you really have got to work on your PR skills

but cause you just told me this like yesterday I'll handle this one for you :deadhorse:

ANY 3'' inch lifted spring won't work in a zook because A. If you leave it as a lifted 3inch spring the ride will be absolutely horrible, due to the stiffness required to get it to 3inches. and B. If you remove leaves from the pack because the camber was so steep in the first place to achieve 3 inches that when you get to your desired level of comfort there will be stuff all leaves in there creating the risk of axle wrap and your leaf pack will start to pull away as well.

I personally have gone the OME springs (not the heavy duty) removed one leaf out of each pack added some extended shackles and the ride is as good as you'll get in a leaf sprung vehicle and it flexs very well too

(Steve how was that???)

If companies stopped selling shit product, and people spent the time to do five minutes research, I wouldn't have to.

Just because you can buy something doesn't mean it's any good.

It's been a few years since I looked at efs springs, but from memory 3" efs spring packs have six leaves in the front and six plus overload in the rear. I can't see a problem with removing a leaf or two in an attempt to improve comfort.

It's not going to make them great, but it might stop them from being horrible.

If they're so shit then why does everyone on this site keep recommending them? Haha everyone says get OME or EFS, yet when you decide to get EFS everyone says no? So confused right now haha
