got my rear diff with 5.12s and air locker done last week and went to try out the low range gearing (hubs unlocked as i haven't done the front) and stubby lever goes into gear but no light on dash and it drives still in high...
Checked for fuses but all seems good, big fuse in engine bay for 4WD is all good, under dash fuses doesn't appear to have anything to do with 4WD as nothing else isn't working.
Checked connections and earths for the pump and transfer case all appear good.

So why wouldnt it be engaging 4L if the lever is fully in place? is the 4L activation by a switch, would have though it's mechanical.
Tried rocking car back and forth both with and which out hubs locked in case something was stuck nothing.

Pump and everything was working fine before had it done...
Ideas?

Should spin freely in 4 with the hubs unlocked? Unless it won't because the rear wont spin either? Get someone to roll the car while you're under it or something.

EDIT do you have the 5.12s in the front yet?

Just 5.12s in the rear hence why not locking the hubs.
Its now driving in low but no light on the dash so guess thats just a pump problem. That said its all good until i do the gears.
It's not as low as i thought i would be down a hill but guess that's because it hasn't got the front pulling it up as well.
No point trying to fix any pump issues as i won't be needing it when i do the front.
No idea what the problem was but thanks!

if you have the wires already spliced cut the rest out and plug off the hole in the diff

This is correct - when in 4H or 4L the front & rear shafts are linked in the transfer case. It is purely mechanical, the switch on the transfer case controls the pump, which controls the light.

Yay! Now i don't have to worry about a transfer issue. And the pump won't be needed.
If you have the diff all plugged up and the wires crossed why do you still have it?
