I did the GV steel diff swap, and installed a locker at the same time (spartan locker) just to confuse things up a bit.
I dont have exotic tools, and cant say it was too hard. Its dead easy to do. And I know this becuase if I can do it, anyone can do it.
The hardest bit about it all is putting the 80kgs of diff on your stomach whilst you try and get it in place lying under the car with ur mate asking you if "you're ok".
No im not F**$ing ok you prick get under here and help !!
Sorry about that outburst.
That and getting the drivers CV in. FML. I dunno how you guys change the drivers cv trackside. Took me 1 hour to get in.
Other than that. its piss easy.

Other than that. its piss easy. I broke a driver side cv this weekend, couldn't be fucked to change it out even though I had a spare ready to go... I still haven't figured out a quick way to change it yet.. I think it's stub axle time like darkhorse said. Do they weigh 80kg??

Not sure if you have already swapped the diff out Tassie Jeeper. But, it can be done on your driveway at 11pm at night with no exotic tools. Only problem I ran into was that the diff is freaking heavy and a bit of a bastard to maneuver in. However, I did it the hard way, in that I did not remove either of my hub assemblies, I left the CVs in the hubs, unbolted the CV flange on one side, and slid the the CV out of the other side, then the whole thing plonked out.
Also, the diff ratio for a 2.0L V6 1995 Vitara, AUTOMATIC is 4.8 (Manual is 4.6 i believe), just incase you haven't already found it. And if you are still chasing a Third member, I have one (Brisbane). My blown diff left the third member in tact, just the housing and spider gears were rooted.

Definitely don't weigh 80kgs.
As for the stub axle conversion..... once you do this I think you have to run a Vit bolt in CV shaft to get the correct length.....
Still need 2 different cv's but would be an easy track side fix.
I could be wrong tho.

I could be wrong tho. Fark that's gay, I think I have a vit LHS CV here. I'll compare it to my GV one when I take it all out.

I don't think you do...All the CVs for the bolt on are the same length and spline. So if you did have to have a different one it would be from any vit wouldnt need to be a 26sp inner as all the hub sides have the same spline. The top one is a 26 spline from a Grand Vitara The middle one is a weird random one The bottom one is a 22 spline from a Vitara L DGV 26sp, weird random one, R 94 SV 22sp

Wtf with the middle vitara one lol, I've got a 26 spline from a SE Vit attached to a GV shaft and outer and I'm pretty sure it doesn't look like that hahah.
And you sure all bolt on ones are the same? Cause SE's are shorter than SV's and GV's

Pretty sure the only difference (from what I've read don't quote me on it) is the length that goes into the diff... Maybe the SEs are different Most of what I've read is based on SVs and GVs

We are talking about the passenger side bolt in CV Shafts..... The GV has a longer half shaft....by about 30mm I think.
I did a little measuring up a while ago and didn't think a GV one was going to work due to being longer...... Would need to widen the front wheel track for it to work properly......
I hope someone can prove me wrong....

Yep correct B4T, I measured about 40mm longer over the SE LHS CV. So not sure if it will be ok or not.

To backtrack a bit - I weighed the alloy diff that came out of Elwood and that was 23kg or so. Steel would be a bit worse, but I doubt it would be more than 35kg.
