Just wondering if anyone has ever done a diy jimny transfer install thread. Cant seem to find in search thread. Meaning 24% gears in stock transfer. Not sierra transfer in jimny.. also would gears be needed running 30x9.5 on 2002 jimny

There's not too much to it. You'll need a fair understanding of how the transfer works, otherwise find someone who does. You'll see the two gears you're replacing as they'll look pretty much the same as the ones your putting in. Then it's a matter of pressing them off and on.

Your gearbox is setup perfectly for a Sierra swap. This would be much easier and much much cheaper than the trial jimny gears. It will also give you more options for gearing too depending on your terrain.

I'm waiting on my auto case to arrive and then I could sell you some 20% gears. They may suit 30's for you depending on your terrain. Our stuff is mostly rock down here so it's slightly too tall. Would be perfect for 235's, but I'm running them on 30's

Stupid question. I went to wreckers to get a auto tc for my 2012 jimny. They said they the same how can I tell them apart?

Mark the input and the output. Input should spin around 1.3 times to the outputs 1.... Or maybe it's the other way around lol. Manual will be 1:1

I don't think the gearsets from VVT to non VVT cases are compatible. And definitely not regarding the manual. It has a wider chain.

I'm 99% sure the gears will be the same setup... The cases are near identical to look at, just one has a stick hanging out of it. The VVT cases even have the blanked off part for the stick to be out in

Except the ratios are nothing alike.

it was my understanding that the the ratios should be the same for all the nonVVT and the VVT auto box. only the vvt manual transfercases (05+) were 1:1 in high. thats from the data i have seen which may be partially skewed by overseas models.

By that reasoning 1l switch case and 1.3l or LJ50 and LJ80 gears wouldn't be interchangeable, but they are.

The ratios are more alike than you think, the difference between high and low range is the same on VVT transfers (low is 2.002 times lower than high) so I'd bet the only actual difference between the transfers is the primary reduction, the chain/sprockets. The planetary set is very likely to be the same. Meaning it should be possible to whack an auto chain and sprockets into your transfer and get auto ratios (32% lower in both high and low). Because pre VVT is the same high range (1.320) I'd say they run the same chain and sprockets (though apparently thicker in manuals, anyone got proof of this?) and a different planetary set.

Of course, this means you could probably dump a VVT planetary set into a pre VVT transfer for a 23.3% lower low range and no change to high. Basically you'd end up with auto VVT ratios (1.320 high and 2.643 low vs 1.320 high and 2.145 for pre VVT) but with a transfer stick instead of the electric shift.

Obviously, that's all theorizing but it makes a lot of sense that Suzuki would do it like that.

I know very little about Sierra cases.
VVT Manual is 1:1 and 2:1
VVT Auto is 1.27:1 and 2.54:1

Manual chain is 5mm wider than auto, and shorter.
