So I've just used the search forum and found a few pieces of good information.
I got use of a 4.18 savage, 40 merc and weighs around 600-700kgs, and
the main concern is steep boat ramps around here as most of the stuff on
search were just jimnys on flats.
So you guys with experience think the jimny would be capable of
stopping when putting a boat in and trying to get out of a steep
ramp instead of floating away.

You won't have the slightest drama in the world. I used a Hyundai excel for years to launch/retrieve a boat bigger than that, at that exact ramp.

Just don't go doing stupid things like back the car below the high tide mark (where it has algae and is slippery) and then jumping on the brakes to slide the boat off.
Stop the car, put it in 1st low, handbrake on. Then get out and push the boat off.

If you're unfamiliar with launching the extra 30 seconds will go along way towards building confidence.


For what it's worth, I use that ramp with a rav4 and a 5metre fibreglass boat. The depth makes it an easy drive on/off option.

yeh these look fine. the ramp i use is a lot steeper then that, and the handbreak holds even though i have 30's
do however leave it turned off in gear, and if its low tide in 4L for some more raction pulling back out
my boat is a 4.6m quintrex centre console with a 60HP so it would be a little heavier id think,

shep has the bigest boat, think he said his its 5m? we also have the advantage of lower gear ratios in high and low

The ramp in Katherine is very steep and is sand covered concrete with a large step at the end of the ramp. I use lowrange and
leave it in gear with handbrake on plus put a rock unde the car tyre. Driving up the ramp with the boat is a bit of a mission as
well so I key start in gear and slowly drive up it. Much easier with 2 people as they can chuck the rock under the tyre before ya get out.


Also I should prob mention that I am not going to use my jimny to tow the boat anymore as I think it is just to much for it
And I am sure that the driveline won't last very long if I do.

Me? I have mechanical disc brakes. I replace the pads more often then the wheel bearings

Thought I'd bring up this old topic and try get a reply here, be a bit hard with a 4 speed stockman with 650kg on the back even if just doing a 20km trip?

depends on how fast you plan on doing it.
drag increases the faster your going, so the easier you take it, the easier on the car.
obviously hilly terrain is going to be a killer even going slow but.

It'l be fine assuming that's on a trailer, if it's a drum brake front end model you'l certainly have to keep your wits about you though.

FWIW "Stockman" covers over 20 years worth of Suzuki models and is the most incorrectly used Suzuki name in Aus. You should be more specific.
