Hi i am looking to put a sierra T/Case on my 98 Jimny. I am planning to run some 31" or 32" and i also have the ORA conversion kit and want to put some 4.91:1 gears from low range offroad into a W/T transfer case, i have been read many thread and post on sierra transfer cases but it seems to be quite scattered information 8O :?

1.Is there a wide track with that big round thing on the back(hand brake?) and if soo will the ORA conversion kit fit to that and the gears from long range, gears fit it??

2.I can't find anyone selling a W/T transfer case besides the wreckers and it has that round thing on the back of it is this a 1L or is it a 1.3L??

3.How do i tell the difference??

4.Is the Jimny and W/T flanges the same?

If you know anyone selling W/T transfer case in Qld please PM me :)

Thats a chain driven xfer. Its what you dont want.
Not sure if coily or jimny.

1.3 xfer can have the drum on the back. But they will have NT flanges (what you dont want).
You could use it, but have to source wt flanges.
Gears from lror will fit into a nt or wt (1.0l depending on ratio, may need a 1.3l gear too)

jimny and wt flanges are the same pcd.

edit:
You will also want a wt jackshaft

The ones with the drum can be 1.3 nt or 1.0l.
you can put wt flanges on a nt 1.3 case and remove the drum brake to make it a wt case.

jimny flanges wont fit

a 1.0 case case can go into a sierra.
Switched 1.0l cases are easier. Swap the flanges to the appropriate wt/nt flanges and fit the shafts and call it done.

The non switched 1.0l requires more work, as flanges cant be swapped.
1.0l driveshafts flange yokes need to be bastardised with wt driveshafts by using half wt and half 1.0l unis.

*beaten*

WTs don't have the transfer handbrake, they have the handbrake built into the back brakes like a Jimny.

There are 2 types of 1l transfer, the non-switch and the switched. The easiest way to tell them apart is to look for the 4wd light switch at the bottom of the stick. As the names suggest, non-switched has no switch and switched does. Non-switched is quite rare, which is lucky as they're harder to fit.

The switched case is identical to the 1.3l transfer aside from the different gear ratios and tailshaft flange pattern. Fitting one to a 1.3l Sierra is as simple as swapping the flanges and bolting it in.

Non-switched has different splines so the flanges can't be swapped. You need to make some hybrid unis/tailshafts to fit it, other than that it simply bolts in. Obviously, the 4WD light wont work though.

Both are roughly 12% lowered geared, making them ideal for correcting tyres up to around 29".

Not entirely sure what is meant in your question.

The brake drum spaces everything as much as the rear transfer case flange on a WT (which is longer than the rest) so having it there is the same as an ordinary flange, its just bulky.

The drum hand brake is interchangeable on WT/NT cases as they are effectively the same except for the flanges.

I'm not 100% on the rest of the jimmy conversion but the answer to the last question is yes.

You will need to remove the handbrake and the backing plate and fit a WT rear flange as the ORA Jimny adaptor kit utilises the 4 bolt holes around the rear output for the mounting bracket. Besides the WT Sierra jackshaft (Gbox to Transfer), ORA also want you to use a WT Sierra FRONT driveshaft to replace the REAR Jimny shaft, as it has a dodgy/odd uni/CV thing on the front end of it that won't stand the additional torque that gearing reduction gives.

Remember too, that when using the LROR table that gives quotes for the amount of reduction that each gearset will provide that those percentages are for a standard 1.3 transfer, not for the Jimny ratios. The Jimny and Coily have much higher T/C ratios than the Leafy gear driven cases, which are matched by lower diff gears in the Jimny. For 30's on a Jimny, 4.16 T/C gears will be enough, and 4.9's a bit too low.

The chain driven transfer you shared is a coily transfer, giveaway is the the lever linkage. The coily transfer has a neutral position but Jimny doesn't.

Slightly off topic... 30's will be much easier... 31's a little more work... 32's will be a pain in the ass and more than likely body lift...
