Ok. So after selling Cookie the Sierra a bit over a year ago i am leaning back towards zooks again.
Have been driving a 2.8 turbo hilux for the past 7 months and have had a substantial amount of engine problems which has really taken away from money i could be spending on goodies. I know they are capable. i mean they are Sierra v3's.
Want to know how they are reliability wise. any common problems i should know about?
Only issue i had with the Sierra was the carby and starter but they are hardly work mentioning.
Also how do they take mods and how hard do they rev on the highway?

They're like anything. Maintenance prevents the worst. Regular services and you'll be fine.

It's a 1.3L Suzuki, revs are normal and desirable. Like JT said maintenance goes a long way to reliability, mechanical sympathy helps too.

How many revs yours do with the bigger tyres at 100 mate?

A stock Jimny should be about 3800 @ 100 I think

Mine has had various gearing changes so it's a moot point but currently I'm only running reduction in the diffs, about 7% I think. Currently my RPM at 100 is about 3500 I think but I'm also now running a 1.8L so plenty of torque to push taller gears. I'm running 30" tyres.

Anything bigger than 215s without doing any kind of gearing fix will rob a 1.3 of its drive ability.

My 1.3 jimny is aprox 4000rpm @ 100kph on 245/75/16 tyres

30.4" iirc. Shep has an auto transfer though.

Stock manual pre VVT is around 3560 @ 100.

My VVT was around 3800 @ 100 when it was stock. 30's and auto transfer makes it 4050

That's about what the G13bb one powered one I've been in did anyway.

If you go for bigger tyres and gearing changes then you increase the possibility that you will start breaking CVs and axles. Go with a bigger engine and then the gearbox becomes a weak link. Unlike most Japanese engineering the Jimny was not designed with a bag of safety factors built into the drive line. If you make modifications that go well beyond what the designers intended then you can expect the reliability to decrease.

However, in a reasonably stock condition I have driven mine over literally thousands of km of really rough outback roads and had very few problems. The worst that happened to me is rear wheel bearings and this was a combination of too much weight, over inflated tyres and of course the corrugations. You should be aware that the Jimny has very little carrying capacity and modifications like ARB bars, winches and rear draw systems eat into what little carrying capacity you have. Keep it light and the drive line close to stock and I would say they are pretty reliable.
