Hi guys also looking for help, have installed 110amp alternator from EL ford on my SJ50 Sierra 1984, all mechanical parts sourced and fitted fairly easily, my problem is getting the wiring correct. I know where the sence wire and the battery light wires connect. I need help with connection of the main power wire from the alternator to the battery. The original wiring has a white with yellow stripe wire from the alternator power output going back through the main wiring loom, with the same colour wire returning from the main wiring loom to the positive battery terminal. I believe I need a heavier wire from the alternator power output direct to be battery positive terminal with a fuse?? What do I do with the existing white with yellow strip wires?? Help please, first time user of this forum. Bob G (Adelaide)

Run a fused heavier wire from alt to battery, Keep the original fused link on the white/yellow wire at the battery (or pit a diff fuse in there), this way the white/yellow still goes to the + battery terminal. The white/yellow wire has a plug near the alternator that can be unplugged and taped up the plug to keep it clean and secured.

Thanks jdk81, connections made as suggested, all working OK, checked alternator output just after start, it was 15.4 volts. I will check again once I have all of the lights an accessories connected. Once again, thank you for you help. Cheers, Bob G

15.4 is too high, Did you setup a relay on the sense wire?

I'd be surprised if any car runs a 100a alternator on a single v belt. There's just too much torque required for long/trouble free belt life. Toyota used two v belts on the 4.5 petrol 80 series for example. (And they were still known to be chirpy) whilst it can be done, and I've done it, there's no way the factory would IMHO.

Hey gang! I'm currently putting a G16B in my sierra! I'm currently running the falconoath 110amp alt on my G13A! What has to be done to mount the falcon alt to the G16B? Cheers Pics would be handy!

Not quite as simple Royce, I might need to make a custom mount! The stock cast mount has 2 8mm threads Where the falcon alt requires only 1 10mm bolt that runs the length of the alternator!
I looked at drilling the stock mount out to fit the larger bolt, but! There's a flat plate connecting the threads! And it won't take a drill bit through the entire mount!

yep Gwagensteve wrote: I've outlined how I trimmed my G16B brackets in my build thread, but here's the summary. Top bracket: Bottom bracket before trimming: Bottom bracket after trimming: I had steering shaft clearance problems due to my power steer (installed without a wedge) and my motor placement (20mm to the right) so I used a stock belt and clocked the alternator hard against the water pump. If you dont have to do this then the top bracket might not need any/much work at all. Steve. doesn't your search.php work?

too easy. i found it by searching for falcon & posts by gwagensteve, knew he'd thrown pics up in his build thread & remember seeing them posted in the falcon alt swap thread.

You might want to look at upgrading your wiring and fusible link setup when you fit the 110A alternator...

^This is critical. I use the wiring loom from the falcon from the alt to the engine bay fuse box.

I haven't finished mine yet (just needs a bolt to tie the alt to the bracket to keep it in place) but I used the 1.3L alternator bracket on the 1.6L engine.
If you already have it mounted to the 1.3L you shouldn't have any work to do except transfer the whole shebang straight over.

Correct. It's the G16B bracket that makes life slightly harder. I didn't have a G13 bracket lying around when I did mine.

The G16 cast bracket may be more work but is much much stronger than the thin plate G13 item. I initially used a G13 mount only to have it bend on me. G16 one is in there now and no issues what so ever.

^^ Not sure on the above question, but to add scope to it, I know the coily has a different lower alternator bracket to earlier sierras, and my '92 carby Vit had a different bracket to my '94 EFI Vit. Differences I have noticed are as follows: Leaf Sierra - connects to holes on side of block and 1 hole on front of block - made of sheet steel. Coily Sierra - connects to 3 holes on side of block only - made of sheet steel. Carby Vit - connects to 2 holes on side of block and 1 hole on front of block - cast. Looks like it might be the same as the other vit one without the web with the 3rd hole at the rear. EFI Vit - connects to 3 holes on side of block and 1 hole on front of block - cast. Also, the EFI Vit alternator bracket as pictured on a post above won't fit a coily at least - the 3 holes on the side of the G13ba block all sit at the same distance from the block, but on the G16b, the back one is stepped at a different depth, so I assume the later cast bracket wouldn't fit any Sierra. The earlier cast one with less holes might fit though as it looks like the leaf sierra one, just cast. I know this because I used some RHS and crush tubes to space the alternator bracket away from the block in one of my Coilies so I could fit a big Bosch BXF1260A alternator in and clear the engine mount. I couldn't have done it as easily with the leaf sierra bracketry and now I am doing some more research before I do something similar on my Vitara. Unfortunately I can't just copy the bracketry from my coily. Pics are at: http://nbs4x4club.com/forum/index.php?topic=15727.0

I ran drill bit through the cast bracket and didnt have any issues.
The Sierra steel alt bracket has different geometry than the cast bracket. The 16v engine timing belts are wider than the 8v, which means the offset of the pulleys all change. The sierra alt bracket will have the belt too close to the timing cover, and the carby vit WP pulley rubs on the timing cover. A swift multi rib wont bolt up or align easily etc. There is lots of ribs on the falc alt, so the depth isnt important as you can use ones further out, but I couldnt get them to align nicely,
Sierra alt bracket, carby vit water pump pulley, and 4 bolt swift harmonic balancer. With a falc alt, all fits and aligns neatly and easily on 8v engines.
Cast bracket is 3 bolts on side, 1 on front (from 16v tbi 1.6 swift, g16a stamped g16b) Cast bracket worked with wp pulley from the swift (and other vit g16b WP pulleys), the original timing and crank pulleys etc.

As Steve said, 100A is way too much load for a v belt.
The only alt I've found that is close to the falcon 100/110A is the unit from a triton or challenger v6 but even they are slightly different. Good for parts though if you can find one not drowned in oil.
