[*]hey guys, I have a 92 vitara with a G16B. Was driving home the other day and it started to rattle, then shortly after the oil light came on, not unusual since it leaks like a sive. Pulled in to the servo and got some oil, this did some what quieten the motor and only now rattles around 4000rpm. Now I understand that I have cooked something. I listened to the rattle and it sounds like it is coming from the rear on the head, not from the big end. It could quite easily be the big end. I don't have oil in the radiator nor milky oil. And there was not visible metal shavings in the oil either. But I did notice if I took the oil cap off it let an exesive amount of air pressure, and caused the motor to almost stall. Is this normal? Just wanted to see what people think it might be, and advice on what I should do ok regards to rebuild or replace it?

Sounds similar to what happened to me.

I had a g16b, the oil light came on under heavy braking.
It started making noise, I changed the oil and filter straight away.
Sounded in the head, around cyl 3 or 4

It was initially only noisey around 4000rpm, noise increased and occurring rev range widened.
About 200 km done from the oil light incident to a hole in the block, oil and chunks of metal all over the road.

Mine did that on the way to Beachport from Melbourne. Got as far as Ballarat and it dropped a big end :(
Got a low K Baleno/Swift engine delivered by these guys http://www.enginesplus.com.au/Suzuki.htm
