Hi guys i have g16b in my sierra, got stuck last night and used the light bar to see what i was doin but turned off the electric fan while the eng wasnt running, finally got myself out then drove off and forgot to turn the fan back on :? , drove for about 10 mins with it idiling as well for probably 3 mins, next thing noticed and the gauge was about 120 125 degress c, so i jus turned the fan on and let it cool down slowly, i checked everything and it seems ok and runs ok. I know im a dumass n i should have a automatic switch which i will install now haha. But what are your thoughts would have that damaged it prematualy or will it be ok? Any help would be great

How much coolant was in there? Did it boil out?
120-125 isn't that much, and probably be ok, but g16s like to crack.

A vit viscous hub fan and a sierra shroud would be my preference

If the head or block has cracked it may take a bit of driving time to find out.

My sierra has a cracked g16 in it, it's been cracked for yonks and just weeps. I put jb weld on it a while back, not sure how well it worked.

My Baleno had a cracked head, I just kept an eye on coolant about once a week.

Most of the failures of the g16s are more annoying than anything else
It's not a deal breaker, even on a daily just keep an eye on coolant.
