Hi guys, a bit of brainstorming and thinking out loud here.

I have a sierra with a 4age 20v and am struggling to keep rear diffs in it.

I am building a ute and want to keep a sierra front diff but
I am thinking of a bundy rear diff housing with a spooled 3.7 hilux centre and 300m custom axles.

I want to cut the housing to standard zook width.

The question is will lux axles fit through sierra front spindles? That way i could keep 5 stud rims all round and run sierra front brakes on the rear.

Otherwise id have to run hilux front spindles but i want to stay away from this.

I beleive tanshi?? Was doing something similar with cj7 spindles or something. I tried looking but couldnt find it.

I basically want to do this to keep the 3.7 ratio as i happy with my gearing at the moment and ive seen the vic zook boys snap a few vit floater axles and i want a bulletproof diff setup that i can tim cameron on and be sure itll be fine.

Anyway anyones input and ideas are appreciated

There's no way that a hilux shaft will fit through a sierra spindle. A 26 spline chromo barely does, hilux stuff is way bigger.

What tyre size are you running?

34s at the moment but 35s arent unlikely in the future.

Also should say ill be linking it so ride height and all that jazz wont be an issue

The jeep cj7 spindles would be the go or some big f150 stuff that run the 5x5.5 stud pattern

cj7 spindles wont fit lux sized cvs either.

you will need dana44 f100 spindles or similar.

if gone through all the options and your gonna spend a shit load of money to get the result you want.

your better off giving up on 5 stud and throwing a pair of cut down lux or cruiser diffs in.

^ this, because if you do start going full timmay on it, you'll be trashing the front end too, and upgrading that will be a huge trial.

I say go full width hilux/bundera with 70 series spindles welded in for a full float with disks and run more rim backspace.

I have a mate who is looking at getting some wheel bearing hubs machined to suit hilux spindles but with 5 stud hubs.

Why 70 series spindles?

Will i be able to run enough offset to bring me back to my width now or will i be a fair bit wider?

I am trying to keep the zook narrowness and lightness but its slowly going out the window haha

The 20v is what's going to eliminate the lightness.

I suggested 70 series spindles to allow a full float rear axle with discs. I guess 80 could be used too.


Regardless the whole job is going to cost a fair bit of money so it doesn't make any sense to stick with 5 stud rims.

If you use ifs hilux or 80 Series rims you'll go pretty close to your current width.

Hmm, i did read your full floater thread steve and by that you think dt s are stronger than a lux front which means i need chromos in it or else im taking a step backwards.

I also find that im not putting a lot of pressure on thefront as it rarely is heavily weighted and on the gas at the same time.

This seems to be were i keep breaking rears on steep hills and on the power.

This is why im thinking only rear.

That keeps my weight down in the front and the cost also haha!

It's the r&p that will go unless you keep taking out hub bolts endlessly. It'll be landing a bounce that will do it, when the weight of the 20v and high rpm will hurt it.

If i was to use 70 series spindles would i use rear spindles to get a handbrake or will a drive flange not bolt up to the hub?

Rear spindles.
Or else weld a hilux spindle pattern to the bundy rear to run hilux front hubs and spindles (like Sierra front only bigger) all round with no handbrake.

IM actually working on a full floater converson for lux diffs at the moment but its a ways off

You can buy the D35C with full floater warn kit and locker and the D30HP front with locker off my XJ if you want them! 3.55:1 though.

Weak um no. They sit behind a 4 litre motor. And they are chromo full floater.
Dan ran them on his jeep on 34s some how i wouldnt call them weak. But not suitable for what you need
