About to get 4 new bf goodrich tyres. Whats the verdict on getting the spare as the same? Or shall i get a cheapo but same size (225/70r16 - 05 GV)?

Also do you guys use locknuts on your tyres or spare?

Personally, I prefer a matched set of five tires, but personal preference aside, I have no qualms about running an unmatched spare, provided it's the same size as the road wheels - and since, I'm pretty certain that 225/70R16 is not the OE tire size for an 05 GV, so there's a good chance that the existing spare is smaller - if it's 4WD that's not the best idea.

I have the OE locknut on my spare, and nothing on the road wheels.

I normally run a cheapo spare the same size. The issue go me is that if you get a brand new spare and puncture a tire with the othe 4 half worn the new spare is useless. I consider the spare a temporary thing to get me out of crap

^^ This. If i was finding a spare for my sierra on 31's i'd be looking at a 16" skinny rim & tyre combo that's near enough to the right diameter. Keep it as lightweight as possible. It's only to limp home on.

Me personally if your going to spend that much money on tyres its best to get all matching and you should be rotating your spare every 5000kms anyway. That way your spare tyre doesn't go hard and stale. BFG's are prone to eggs on the side walls. Just a heads up.
But they are a very good tyre.
I ran that size tyre on my GV and it was good.
Keep an eye on the front tyres for camber.

Get all 5 tyres the same and rotate all 5 tyres all the time.

I see so many 'tourers' with their brand new twin tyres on the back while they've got 4 nearly bald tyres under the car. *shakes head*

I wouldn't bother with lock nuts, but that's just me.
If they where 35 inch Micky Thompsons MTZ (or similar priced tyres) on Patrol rims you might want to think about locking them up though.

^^^same here,I rotate all 5 every 5,000 ks and my current set of tyres Has so far done nearly 40,000ks and there's still plenty of tread left which I consider to be great value and I am running Bridgestone duellers HT at the moment
