Question for the Queenslanders out there.
I have to transfer my trailer rego from the Blues state to the Winners state and from what I understand I need to do another full rego inspection for that.

My trailer is custom built (sounds better then 'home made' ).

In NSW with home made trailers the RTA send an inspector to come and inspect the trailer at your house before you can take it in for the blue slip.
After the RTA guy is satisfied the trailer isn't stolen and is made correctly, he gives you a VIN number. You only have to stamp this VIN number on the chassis (or drawbar). no compliance plate is required.

My understanding with QLD transport is that I need to do another full inspection, including another weigh bridge certificate. And now I will also need a compliance plate stating the make/model, manufacturer and load capacity.

So, has anyone recently transferred rego on a home made trailer in QLD?
Can you give us a quick run down on the steps required?

Does it have an ATM of 750kg (or less)? If so, it's a piece of piss. You just turn up to QLD transport and fill out some paperwork and you are done. I did it myself last year.

Awesome, thanks mate.

I'm under the total weight limit.
For some reason I thought home made trailers where more difficult then shop bought, but that looks easy enough.

I didn't see anything about how recent the weigh bridge cert had to be. Might give them a call and see if I can use my original documents from my NSW rego.

haha, nice try... :P

From what I've read today it's heaps easier to get rego up here then it was down there.

There's no rush for me, I've got about 10 months left on my yellow plates.
But I was thinking about giving it a coat of paint to seal it up again before summer comes around and we start doing more frequent beach trips. Then I started thinking if I needed to put it over the weigh bridge for the transfer I'd do it while everything was stripped down to bare bones for painting.

The only hurdle for registering a trailer that is "custom built" is the VIN, and even that isn't much of a hurdle.

VIN aside, it is literally a twenty minute job and nineteen and a half minutes of that is spent waiting for your number to be called at QLD Transport.

In the NT you get issued a vin number that needs to be ingraved onto a vin plate and stamped onto the drawbar

It's the same in QLD. It's not much of a hassle at all, but that is probably the most time-consuming part for a <750kg ATM trailer merely because the rest is literally two minutes or paperwork.
