Had a 98 GV in the shop for a service today, on removing the old fuel filter...... Looks like she hasn't been changed in a while.....

No real reason to change it without cause. Lots of cars are now considered to have one fuel filter for life, and barring filling from cans etc, that should do.

I am borderline OCD when it comes to servicing parts on my car, but the one thing I haven't touched is the air filter and the fuel filter. Unless something goes wrong or your use and circumstances dictate it, let sleeping dogs lie I reckon.

I get especially amused when people cut open a fuel filter and find some light debris in it and declare it was the cause of whatever problems their car has.
Imagine if the same attitude was applied to the air filter?

The fuel was relatively clean that came out of the filter, customer wanted it changed, so changed it was.

My jimny has done 50000km with at least every 3rd tank being from jerry cans or old 205L drums of avgas. No issues at all and I don't expect that there will be.

It not like an oil or coolant change that should be regularly done but funny enough as Gwagensteve said that most of the vehicals problems come from these 2 things. *sigh* No wonder all these sevice centres make so much money in replacing air and fuel filters.
