Can those of you that have actualy tried thermo fans let me know how they go?
I am looking to milk as much power as possible out of my motor.
Is it worth it to loose the fixed fan and put on thermo fans or is the power gain not worth the money?
I know it is not much but let me know what you found I am going to be running a over size radiator.
If you have found it to be a good thing are you running 2 fans or one?

i run 1 single thermo pushing air through from the front of the radiator and still use my engine fan with the shroud. without the shroud the thermo was useless.

thermo really only helps when u are crawling well moving slow cause the normal fan only speeds up with the engine revs.

I only have a 16" thermo on mine, works wonders.

The only time it comes on is at bog speed. You don't gain a lot, but everything helps the little ones hey.

my SWB has a 1.6 with sierra radiator and aircon that is never turned off plus
it is fucken hot here.
i have the biggest thermo that i could find and have it on a temp switch, i have had
no problems with the setup and the motor never gets hot.
i went to a thermo as i was over heating when driving for extended periods in 1st low and also when the grass seeds are bad.

Ive run the same on most of my car`s, Suzuki or not.
With no problem`s, normally if it over heat`s on the highway ya radiator is blocked. I`ve allway`s had the fan eng side & sucking.

i have a thermo fan.....
i brought it from repco just to get it going but i will eventually get a vitara a/c fan or somthing like that, i ran a temp switch that went through the top radiator hose in till it failed at DI luckily i was at camp when i noticed now i run a temp switch that screws in through the manifold seems to work fine, i have a manual switch in the cab that i use for water crossings, i run a 25amp fuse through a relay.

With the adjustable switch, did you use the lil bit of rubber that came with it??
Thay run freon through that line & if you squish it you f*#k the switch..

That`s the one, i found the switch from supershit lasted longer than the ripco one, & is cheaper to, don`t know why cause thay look to be identical except for colour..
I all way`s put silicon round that grommet thing to, Just in case..

i got it under warenty so i got my money back than i put the proper sensor switch in which was cheaper

Do you know what deg it switch`s at? can you get different deg switch`s???

umm i think it switches on at 80 and switches off at 85 or 90 or somthink like that and yer you can get them at different deg i got mine off another vehicle that repco lists

at idle it turnes the fan on then arfter a while it turnes off with my other set up it was allways on i think i had it set too low but all good now

Yep, set to low, it take`s a bit of fine tuning to get it rite but I like adjustable,
It should cut in & out at idle when parked.

What size is that one you have?

do you mean what is the temp rang? if so its 80 to 85 or 90deg

and also i have to get some tin or something and fill in the gap on the corners of the radiator like what want33 did

OK good good Thanks. a lot of good ideas, I think i am going do what royce adviced. but with a little extra.
I am going to run a Vitara clutch fan and get a small/meduim size electric fan for in front of the radiator on a switch in the cab to help when I am in the thick of it. just to help out.

i ran my thermo through a relay to a switch in the cab got control over the fan only cause its really only needed every now and then.

well that means mines blocked damn!!! ha ha ha mine gets hot on the hwy usualy just over half or 3/4. but slow cruising is fine sits around half. i remeber when i flushed it there was alot of shit that came out.

Just put a new radiator and 12' thermo in mine. It is bolted inside the hole of the factory shroud and sealed up (as in bolted to the shroud through the plastic). Works better then the factory fan id say. I run it with a temp switch (90 deg normally open) from jaycar soldered directly to the bottom tank next to the outlet ($5).
It switches on at 90 deg and of at 85 deg. It only kicks in at lights (1/2 on the factory temp gauge) and stays on for about 20 seconds! you can actually see the gauge drop as its on. It has allowed my to actually hold 5th on the freeway now (31's with no gearing). You will need a bigger alt to run one. In soft sand etc at low speed it turns on and off and never seems to struggle.
You can only get the temp switches i got from jaycar in 90 deg or 80 deg. 85 would be perfect i reckon but they are not available.

Jaycar, i always forget about those bugger`s.. It`s said a fixed fan can take 7 to 14 hp to turn, that`s shitload`s to a 1.3 or 1.6........

my temp gauge does the same and i bolted mine to the factor fan shroud too

i have used thermo fan's on every car i have ever owned as long as you buy good one not ebay specials you'll have no dramas, i got one on my drover because the g16b engine won't fit in the engine bay its only a 8" ice one from autobarn connected to a thermo switch (temp sensor) the car runs for about 10 mins before it kicks in at 85' degs. and turns on and off when i'm doin 90km/h on the freeway. works greats i'd say go for it

i have a 14" on my 1.6 with sierra rad and a 12" on my stock 1.3.
just dont buy a cheap jobbie.
