Ok before you ask I've done so many searches but just want direct answers

I currently have a stock 1.3 sierra running 31s

Now I haven't been wheeling yet with the tyres but on road hasn't really changed to much other than a bit more pressure on my clutch.

I'm heading powelines in the next few weeks and just looking for a cheaper option to make it around the basic tracks

I'm a student btw that's why I'm sounding cheap ahaha

Questions:
Firstly,do 1l transfer boxes offer a lower ratio to deal with larger tyres?

Second, are all 1l transfer boxes the same?

Third, are they a direct swap with with wt cases?

I know this has probly been answered a hundred times but I've been searching for hours and the questions I any answered always seem to be hidden ahaha

Yep, 1ltr transfer case will offer lower gearing to cope with larger tyres..

Will they be enough for 31's? Can be a bit personal.. Some will love it that way, others will yearn for lighter gearing still!!

I don't know off the top of my head what the ratios are for 1ltr and the percentage reduction but others will know.. I will try a quick search (but I'm on night shift so my motivation to scour the threads is slim at best ).

There are two different types of 1ltr t/f case. Switched and non-switched.

The switched one should be a bit more straight forward to put into a WT. you can put non-switched in, but you might need to fluff around with the drive shaft flanges or something!? I think

To start you off, the above website is a good calculator to gauge the differences in different tyres.. If you get the tyre circumference and compare your 31's to standard, you should get a picture or starting point on how much you MIGHT want to adjust the gearing.

But again, it can be personal. If your happy with it, run it. If it causes a problem, resolve it

Thanks heaps! Good to know yeah I think I might just go with the 1l case as I don't really go out very often more of just a weekend or work car a couple of times a week.

How can you tell the difference between the 2 cases?

And is it basically a direct bolt on? Or with new mounting holes need drilled, flanges changed etc?

A bit out if my depth answering this conclusively.. I haven't done the swap on mine yet, but the switched is supposed to be easier and I don't think it's a massive mod..

The mounts look the same but it's the drive flanges that can be tricky.. But again, until I've done it for myself I can only say what others tell me or I've read here. Others will be able to tell you more than me!

How to tell the difference? The switched t/f has a wire hanging off near the shift stick.. That is what activates the 4x4 light on your dash, the non-switched case doesn't have the switch

Hmm the issues with the drive shafts is that the flanges bolting together?

What I was thinking is swapping my wt transfer flanges into the 1l box?

Yeah might just give it a go ahaha see what happens I can't see the car being that much of a pig to drive it isn't everyday around town but I think that's just personal preference

Still would like some info on the conversion? It's its just a bolt it
