I ran a search to see if there was a thread alread open but i couldnt find definite answers.

My questions are, if im to change out my 1990 1.3 to a 1.6 vitara or swift gti. Besides the loom ect are there other bits needed example will the gearbox bolt straight on or do you need an adapter?

i just ask as buying an engine is all good but i just gotta know if there will be other stuff i need to buy aswell so i can get it all in one go and put it together and have no problems (besides my own faults)

yeah i was leaning towards the 1.6.

If you go with the 1.6, consider using the manual or auto gearbox from the vitara as well. Although I'm more into autos, the vitara manual is superior to the sierra one, mostly because it allows the use of a bigger clutch. Doing this eliminates the need for a gearbox/engine adapter plate, but dies require some work to the gearbox mount, transmission tunnel and jackshaft.

Rumour has it that the Vit manual has a much heavier flywheel compared to the Sierra as well?

Only because of its extra diameter.

When you remove the transfer from the gearbox are you left with something similar to the end of a sierra box? I've only played with divorsed transfers/separate boxes, what needs to be done to the jackshaft?
