i have the 1.6ltr carby engine in my sierra. would i have to get a clutch to suit a 1.6 or 1.3??

what gearbox?. clutch type is determined by gearbox.

if you have a sierra gear box i would say 1.3 clutch. pull it apart and have a
look though as there are two clutches for the 1.3.

The transmission you have will dictate what clutch you have. Most 1.3->1.6 engine swaps utilise the original transmission, so it's most likely that you'll want the 1.3 clutch. I'd recommend pulling your clutch out before you buy one though, as there are 2 differnt types of clutch plate for the 1.3s, (the spline count is different).

thanks heaps for all that. is it hard to pull the clutch out? considering you could hold the gearbox in one hand i dont think i should have too much trouble hahaha.

Can someone tell me which ones take the stepped flywheel and which ones use the flat ones? I thought flat were NT and stepped WT but could be wrong? Sorry for the threadjack

i have 3 gear boxes 89wt swb, 85 drover pos, 85 1.3 lwb all of them have 20 spline
input shafts and used a stepped flywheel. my wt is still a sj50 so maybe it is
the sj70's that are different.

Your best bet is to pull it out and check. I was "told" by both repco and autobarn mine was the early one with the lesser numberd spline (19?) and the flat flywheel then when I pulled it apart it was the complete opposite. Needless to say I now have an expensive paperweight of a new 19 pressure plate and clutch.

To the OP I've got the exact same setup as you. Notch a v out of the front of the transmission mount (forward of the centre bolt hole). Once that's done its pretty damn easy to muscle the box in and out. I've had mine in and out half a dozen times now. Plus you'll be happy with the 1.6 performance over the 1.3 though I've added EFI to mine now.

all NT are one type

WT are a choice of 2, different splines and stepped or flat flywheel, have to use the right flywheel to suit your box too

Coily are all the same, so you might be able to go with that, assuming it hasnt been changed

With a coily, they use the same clutch and pressure plate as a 20 spline leaf model. The throw out bearing is different though.

just to throw a spanner in the works, these are the two sierra clutches that i have. the new one has 18 spline, the old has 20.
my car 89 wt sj50 has the 20spline and a stepped flywheel

i have one of those rare triple plate hi-tec jobbies.
do you want the POS it just brakes clutch cables.
