Has anyone managed to find a supplier for Semi-Metalic or Ceramic brake pads for V6 Grand Vitara (04/98 on) ?

Bendix do their 4wd spec pads which work pretty well, EBC also seem to list a green stuff as well but I didnt look enough for any details cause already you are talking overkill that you might have trouble keeping up to operating temp

I have been using semi-metalics on all my vehicles for the past 15 years with no problems, but none have brakes the size of the GV, so point taken.
My reference to Ceramic is just in desperation.
I have been looking for weeks for metalics, which once you have used for a while, make normal pads seem like they don't work properly.
I can't locate a source here or overseas, so I am willing to try Ceramics if I have to, but cannot find a source for them either.
Most vehicles can be fitted with pads from something else, like my Hilux has WRX pads, they are essentially the same pad, but the bloody GV is a unique animal. Nothing else even close to its dimensions exist.

From what I can find out, the Bendix 4WD pads are just a bit harder, likewise the greenies.

The other side benefit of Metalics is that I have never had to have a rotor machined (they wear perfectly flat) and the B.S. about metalics wearing rotors out quicker is just that, B.S. My ute has over 400,000km and is still on the original rotors, and still well within specs. Camry has almost 300,000 and same thing, still in great condition.

Maybe I can find a Chinese or Taiwanese company making them

you would be happy with bendix 4x4 if you can';t find what your after, they are a good pad and aussie made woo.

I had semi metalics on my old Sierra,...they were awesome. (Metal-King)

None genuine pads are a very rare beast for the GV's mate. I went through the same thing a few years back with my 99. I ended up fitting the Bendix 4x4 pads and have never looked back. They have been a solid performing pad for my money to date.

although I cant directly compare the 4x4 pads to anything as thats all I have ever fitted to the vit they seem to feel and bite nicely, I have had lucas and greenstuff in my mini though and the greenstuff are a million times better, once you get em up to temp which on a bit might be hard as they are pretty big brakes

Out of interest, if the greenies are so good on the mini, why do you not use them on the vit?

the greens are only good once you get em up to temp, cold they are noisy crappy bits of dusty crap!!!

I doubt the driving I do in the vit they would ever get to temp, its not a race car and I dont try and treat it as such

plus the bedix I send a txt and pick them up on my way home, EBCs would be too much effort for me

Hey PhillT, Let me know how you go and what you find out as I am going to be due for pads soon and that is one less thing I will need to research if your already doing it. I have spent a packet, just due to trial and error...mostly error,but at least you get the right result in the end.
