When i smash my car up/down dues. Which i currently do on a regular basis i am hearing a loud scraping sound when i go up or level out at the bottom.

Is this from the front bumper bottoming out or is it the stock shockies looking for a little more travel?

There hasn't been any sand on the bumper but i have noticed that where the front side panel meets the wheel guard there is a chunk of plastic (by chunk i mean 1cm cube??? but i like my car neat)

Sorry i know it is a dull and idiotic question but i cant watch my stockies and drive at the same time.

...i'd go with tyres scrubbing also...I have had a few cars where the springs themselves are noisy when working hard but generally it doesnt sound like you described

Yeah sorry guys. It is a manual 99 Jimny. Some of the dunes i am seeking to dominate aren't the sort of hills you can dawdle up. Somewhat similar to "The Bowl" featured on YouTube.

If it is tyres on bumper, like everybody has suggested, and I agree, then shockies won't make any difference at all. You need to work on tyre clearance and shockies will do nothing for this.

i think he's refering to the type that require a certain amount of run up with obigitory air at the top.

Well we had to get up there first...

I try not to get air off the top of dunes, sounds stupid I know but I don't wanna destroy my car, but then thats just me

I find if you back off just as you get to the top you roll to a stop on the top of the dune, which gives you a good opportunity to find out whether or not their is a sheer vertical drop the other side before launching yourself over what is effectively a cliff... But again, thats just me....

No i don't want to get air that is something that will definitely not happen in The Cricket. But sorry they are a little steeper than that. Most are half wash outs. I was looking at a 40mm if not more lift in it when i do get them so i can get larger (225/235) wheels put on.

Also bear in mind that even when you put lifted springs in, the suspension still flexes upwards just about as far, so larger tyres will just give you more scrubbing issues...

I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of lifting coils and spacers and all the rest of it, but I'd imagine if your stock tyres are scrubbing then bigger ones will only scrub worse...

Yeah i am aware of that too thanks Ben, but hopefully the new tyres will be better suuited to the application, a run up will not be required and that little bit of lift will supply me with a little bit of extra comfort room.

The tyres without gearing to match will make it even worse... you'll be geared too high...
