Hey guys, looking at buying a 1996 stockman ute.
Can anyone tell me some details about these....I know there a 1Lt engine, and leaf sprung but are they WT or NT, diff ratios, etc.
Only ever had a 1987 NT before so dont know much about the utes, or LWB's I'm afraid.

mine is 96 stockman, it has
1ltr motor
4spd g/box (same housing as 1.3 5 spd but with 4spd inside)
WT spring spacing and diffs (all diff parts are interchangable with 1.3)
Different flanges on t/shafts and diffs (interchangable with nt and wt tho)
1ltr dash
1ltr radiator (and mounts)
4.1 ratio diffs (4 pinion)
1ltr transfer (12% lower low range than 1.3 and interchangable)
Fuel tank same as 1.3
1ltr seats
Bigger than 1.3 steering wheel
Might i also add its a little more cramped in the cab cause the seats dont go back, this make fitting bucket seats more of a mission.
They were imported from india and had the backs cut of and the trays put on to make them more appealing to farmers ect... Indian build quality is somewhat lacking meaning some welds (front recovery point!!!) are substandard compared to the auspec 1.3's
think thats about it.

It accepts the 5th gear and rear bearing from a 5sp with a few small mods. The maruti dash is the same as a NT, but without the clock. 1ltr radiator (and mounts) 4.1 ratio diffs (4 pinion) 1ltr transfer (12% lower low range than 1.3 and interchangable) Fuel tank same as 1.3 1ltr seats Bigger than 1.3 steering wheel

I have owned both Maruti AND jap spec ute. I see no difference in the welds. They both suck. And the 'recovery hook' on the front is actually just a tie down point for shipping purposes. It was never intended to be used as a recovery point.

I would say your 95 model had the flanges changed at some stage as the maruti models are uniquly the same. My 96 model maruti's had the exact same box as the 5 spd, even the rear part of housing.

Mine was completely original. Only had 65,000km on it. I'm ashamed to say it, but it was the straightest car I have owned.
And I'm not sure how you had a 5sp 1.3 box in yours with the 1L. They don't match up. The bellhousings are completely different.
And I have done the 5sp conversion on a Maruti box, and it requires machining the rear housing of the 4sp to accept the rear shaft bearing. A 5sp box does not need this.
But all this aside, suzuki made changes every second week. Take the vitara wiring loom for example. There are about 5 different variants. And thats just for the 1.6 motor.

I have NEVER seen WT flanges on any maruti....and i have dealt with bucket loads of them.

When I went bundy diffs, I sold the WT maruti diffs to a bloke on outers. He fitted them that day into his WT sierra. No dramas with flanges at all I also ran hilux d'shafts to my transfer after I machined the locating spigot down. I'm pretty sure that early hilux is the same as WT sierra....

My WT maruti had NT diff flanges but they aren't interchangeable with NT sierra flanges. The spline on the pinion is slightly different.
My advice is if you do buy it dont bust a diff because they are a PITA to find. I ended up putting NT sierra diff centres in when I busted my rear diff because I couldnt find a spare.
I do have one good set WT maruti R&P gears though if anyone is in need

ok so can someone please clear this up for me.....
I've been ringing around everywhere trying to get prices on 2 inch lift kits.
And i'm being told by some suspension mobs (wont name and shame) that they dont make them for LWB's as the rear springs are longer that your standard sierra.
I dont understand is this true or are all the springs the same length no matter what the sierra. Its a 1996 Stockman Lwb with the well body not the ally tray. What model number is it? the SJ71 or am I mistaken? I know there also called Maruti but that about it....

they are the same, well i have always used lifted springs to fit a normal sierra. Try brian at suzistore he has a big range.
Pete at the suzuki shop in beckingham can generally do a kit cheaper than suzistore if $$$ is a concern.

The rear springs are the same length and shackle bush sizes, but the LWB have a marginally heavier rating. You can get away with SWB springs, but you might find the sit lower loaded or even sag sooner.
Your model code is MG410 WT. ARB do 40mm springs for them:
